Yes, despite the current financial crisis that has all Americans firmly in its grip, we still do have many things for which we should be thankful.

When we gather on Thursday with our loved ones and friends for the traditional Thanksgiving feast, please be reminded of the aforementioned sentence.

Topping that list is the most important thing in life…the love of family and friends. Without love, without compassion for our fellow man, we are empty; void of life.

Take time to be thankful that you still have a roof over your head; there is a growing list of our fellow Americans that will not be able to say that this Thanksgiving.

Be appreciative that there remains enough money within your family budget to put food on your family’s table, clothes on their backs and that you are able to keep your home safe and secure.

Forget the material things in your life. They carry no weight and are worthless for what lies beyond in eternity. True wealth is found in love and kindness.

Be thankful that there are those who put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our freedom. Without the brave men and women, past and present, who proudly put on a military uniform, we would be unable to enjoy a holiday such as Thanksgiving.

The same can be said for our nation’s first line of defense…our local emergency responders; police, fire and rescue. They are there when we need them; day or night; holiday or regular day.

If you really want to celebrate Thanksgiving, find someone less fortunate and share your good blessings with them.

And please don’t forget to thank the good Lord for the blessings he has bestowed upon us.
