Warriors ride balanced-scoring to win

ASKEWVILLE – Every player that dressed for Lawrence Academy Thursday night scored.

The Lady Warriors had eight players score, but only one hit double digits as they knocked off Bethel Christian Academy 39-22 in a non-conference basketball contest.

Lawrence jumped out to an 18-5 advantage after one quarter and pushed the lead to 27-12 by the intermission. After that, the Lady Warriors set it on cruise control and went on to victory.

Casey Belch led Lawrence with 10 points while adding seven rebounds and four steals. Ashtyn Mizelle scored nine points and grabbed 11 boards despite missing the entire third quarter due to foul trouble.

Additionally, senior Debbie Stotesbury scored six points for Lawrence. Jennifer White and Ashton Lyle pulled down 13 rebounds each while scoring three points and four respectively.

Rounding out the Warrior scoring was Taylor Sexton (4), Kendra Spruill (2) and LeAnne Eubanks (1).

Bethel Christian was led by Elizabeth Farmer with 13 points and Charitee Dunlow with six. Kelsey Connor added two points and Kristen Adams had one point.

Defensively, Megan Simons led the way for Bethel with nine rebounds while Connor added six boards and two steals. Dunlow had five rebounds.

The win boosts Lawrence to 2-0 early in the season while Bethel Christian dropped to 1-4.
