MURFREESBORO – Three people are dead in what appears to be a double murder-suicide near Murfreesboro early Sunday night.

Meanwhile, a fourth victim, a female that was reportedly shot at least twice, was rushed to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and then airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Her condition is unknown.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan and a team of investigators were still out as of 9 p.m. Sunday at the scene, reportedly at United Turf, Inc., located off US 258 between Murfreesboro and Como.

Using several different reliable sources, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald was able to learn that one man, a former United Turf employee, apparently shot and killed two of his former co-workers before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.

It is not known if the female victim was a United Turf employee or an acquaintance of either of the two murder victims.

The names of all victims have yet to be confirmed.

The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald will have more information as it becomes available.
