MURFREESBORO — A single-vehicle wreck thankfully yielded no major injuries near here Friday morning.

According to Trooper M.T. Bryan with the North Carolina Highway Patrol (Troop A, District II), the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Vaughan Creek Road just north of Murfreesboro.

Bryan said a 2001 Chevy Blazer, operated by Tammy Casper, 39 of Boykins, Va., was traveling north when a deer ran out in the vehicle’s path.

Bryan said upon the driver swerving to miss the animal, the vehicle ended up striking the deer and the driver lost control.

The vehicle then hit an embankment and overturned.

Bryan said Casper’s daughter, Maria Casper, 18 of Boykins, Va., was riding in the passenger seat. The backseat was occupied by Betsy Boyce, 33, and Charles Reece, 23, both of Margrettsville.

During the accident, Reece was thrown from his seat and after the vehicle over turned ended up in the cargo area of the Blazer. Boyce was pinned under the vehicle.

Bryan said neither back passenger was wearing a seatbelt.

Bryan said there were no major P.I.s (personal injuries) and all were taken to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital for medical treatment.

Bryan noted left of center and overcorrecting as the contributing factors in the wreck.
