Heating woes will be solved

AHOSKIE – Work is progressing on the heating unit at Ahoskie Elementary School.

According to Hertford County Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Michael G. Basham, the school is being heated currently by a small furnace that is being used to “knock the chill off.”

Dr. Basham said the contract to replace the furnace at the school was originally awarded in May, but two contractors have not been able to complete the work due to circumstances beyond the control of either the contractor or the school district.

“I am told the temperature has not dropped below 59 or 60 degrees depending on who you talk to,” Dr. Basham said. “We have used the small furnace to help with the heating.”

Dr. Basham said the furnace should be replaced by Tuesday night. That would mean the heating will be in place before the colder temperatures forecast for later next week.
