WINDSOR – A fire Tuesday night destroyed a residence here.

According to Fire Chief Billy Smithwick, the Windsor Fire Department was called out Tuesday at 10:32 p.m. for a fire at a home at 114 Cardinal Lane.

The home was not occupied and had been empty for approximately three days because the owner of the residence had been out of town, Smithwick said.

“The fire likely began in the living room area,” the chief reported. “It pretty much destroyed the home.”

The Windsor Fire Department responded with four vehicles – two engines, a tanker and a support vehicle – and was on the scene for nearly two hours.

According to Smithwick, the nature of the fire was undetermined, but would be investigated by the home owner’s insurance company.

“There was nothing really suspicious about the fire,” he said. “It seemed to be a normal accidental fire.”
