AULANDER – A two-vehicle accident that left three people injured near here Wednesday afternoon is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Bellar Rose Forehand, 47, and 10-year-old James Anthony Forehand, both of Windsor, were airlifted by EastCare from the scene of the 3:52 p.m. accident, which occurred at the intersection of RP 1208 (Harrell’s Siding Road) and RP 1207 (Horace Vick Road) in northwestern Bertie County.

A spokesperson at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville said Mrs. Forehand was listed in fair condition on Thursday afternoon while the child’s condition was reported as “undetermined.”

According to an accident report filed by Trooper C.W. Godwin, Mrs. Forehand was operating a 2003 Chevrolet passenger car south on the Horace Vick Road. It was reported that she and the child were leaving a funeral at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 28-year-old Angela Francis Hines of Roxobel, was traveling west on Harrell’s Siding Road.

“It appears that the Forehand vehicle pulled to the stop sign on RP 1207, came to a stop and then attempted to turn left onto RP 1208,” Trooper Godwin said.

Apparently, while making the turn, Forehand’s car pulled into the path of the Hines vehicle. The resulting impact was in the left front quarter panel of the Forehand car. Both vehicles came to rest on the Harrell’s Siding Road following impact.

Hines was injured and transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital by Hertford County EMS. Her condition is unknown.
