MERRY HILL – It’s not who wins the first one; it’s who wins the last one.

Lawrence Academy dropped the first game Thursday against Tarheel Independent Conference rival Hobgood Academy, but bounced back to take the next three. The win pushed the Lady Warriors to 11-4 overall and 9-2 in the league.

“We started the first game 19-11, but then got tentative in our offense,” said Lawrence Head Coach Dr. Ed Clouse. “Jamie had some great hits to bring her team (Hobgood) back in the first game.

“We started the second game being more aggressive and took control of the match,” he added.

The Lady Warriors fell 25-22 in the first game, but bounced back to claim the win by counts of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-23.

Danielle Davis paced the Lady Warriors with 12 blocks, seven kills, five digs and two aces while Ashtyn Mizelle contributed 12 digs, eight kills and seven aces.

Senior Debbie Stotesbury collected 20 assists for the afternoon along with nine aces and three digs while Shelby Zube checked in with six digs, three kills and one ace.

Jennifer White had nine digs for the Lady Warriors and added six kills and two aces. Taylor Sexton rounded out the offense with five aces.

The Warriors will host Pungo Christian Academy today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. in another TIC matchup.
