Northeast tennis remains perfect

GATESVILLE – Northeast Academy improved to a perfect 10-0.

The Lady Eagles swept Gates County 9-0 Tuesday to stay undefeated during the 2008 campaign.

Top-seed Betty Edwards rolled to a spotless 8-0 win over Morgan Bagley while fifth-seeded Kelsey Futrell (Denena Hayer) and number six Kathryn Bryant (Ranae Parsain) also took 8-0 wins.

The Lady Eagles’ number two, LeAnn Barnes, secured an 8-3 win over Ashley Pierce while number four Kelly Edwards topped Morgan Winslow 8-5. Taylor Cocke won 8-3 over Kayleigh Evans in the battle of number fours.

In doubles action, the Lady Eagles swept the contest with Betty Edwards and Bryant winning at number one, Kelly Edwards and Cocke at number two and Barnes and Kalen Rose at number three.

Lansdell Edwards secured an 8-3 victory in an exhibition match.

Northeast will put their 10-game win streak on the line today (Thursday) when they battle Ridgecroft School and then will host Lawrence on Friday.
