Lady Eagles sweep

LASKER – Northeast Academy continues to improve.

The Lady Eagles swept a pair of recent volleyball matches with non-conference rival Faith Christian Academy to up their record to 9-7 for the 2008 season.

On Friday, Northeast took a straight-set win over Faith at home by set counts of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-12.

“It is nice to get back on a winning track after two tough defeats,” said Lady Eagles’ skipper Cap Pfeiffer. “We have lost three tie-breakers this year. It is time to win some.”

Jennifer Sykes had a stellar day for Northeast, recording nine aces, eight assists, three tips and a block while the Lady Eagles got two aces, two kills and an assist from Lacy Pfeiffer.

Kelly Sykes had four aces, two tips and one kill for Northeast while Callie Burgess registered two kills, two tips and one block. Molly Hargrave had one ace, one kill and one assist. Rounding out the scoring were Lauren Edwards (one assist), Meghan Bridgers (one ace) and Jessica Ellis (one ace).

On Monday, Northeast paid a return visit Faith Christian and this time Pfeiffer got his wish – the Lady Eagles won a tie-breaker. Northeast secured a 26-24, 25-14, 24-26, 21-25, 15-10 victory.

“We finally won a tie-breaker,” the relieved coach said. “Faith Christian was on fire for most of the match, but our girls rose to the challenge. This team is amazing.”

Jennifer Sykes again had a stellar day for Northeast as she had eight assists to go with five kills, four tips and three digs. Callie Burgess secured six digs to go with three aces, three kills and one tip while Lacy Pfeiffer had seven digs, five kills, two aces and two assists.

Molly Hargrave checked in with two assists, one dig and one ace while Jessica Ellis added three aces and one assist. Brittany Perry had one ace.

The Lady Eagles are now 9-7 for the 2008 season and will return to Tarheel Independent Conference play today (Thursday) when they host Ridgecroft School at 4 p.m.
