AHOSKIE – Another Main Street business owner has joined the ranks of those voicing concerns about parking problems along Ahoskie’s Main Street.

At their monthly meeting last week, the Ahoskie Town Council listened as Vicki Cagle of Cagle Chiropractic addressed the parking issue near her business located at 403 West Main Street.

Cagle said there were vehicles parked in the spaces all day long near her business, thus placing a strain on her patients, some in physical pain due to medical conditions, who have to walk a distance to her office.

“The vast majority of the people we treat have been in serious automobile accidents and it is very difficult for them to walk any great distance,” Cagle noted.

She added that there is a public parking lot nearby (at West Street and Church Street) and recommended this is where the “everyday parkers” need to leave their vehicles.

Cagle requested that the three spaces directly in front of her clinic on Main Street and the two at the side of her office on West Street be limited to two-hour parking (8 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Monday through Friday). She said the two spaces on West Street were adjacent to her clinic’s handicap ramp entrance.

As is tradition, the Ahoskie Town Council takes no action during public input periods. Cagle was reminded of this by Ahoskie Mayor Linda Blackburn. However, the Mayor said the issue may be placed on the council’s agenda for discussion during an upcoming meeting.

This isn’t the first time the Ahoskie Town Council has heard a complaint about vehicles filling up the parking places throughout the day on Main Street and adjacent streets. In previous meetings, council members have acted on those complaints by voting to create two-hour parking zones on sections of Main Street, Mitchell Street and Railroad Street.
