AULANDER – A Red Apple employee was robbed at gunpoint here Monday afternoon as she attempted to make a deposit at Southern Bank on Commerce St.

According to Aulander Police Chief Jimmy Barmer, as the employee made her way to the bank, she was approached by a black male, exiting a green Ford Exlplorer.

&uot;The suspect brandished a small caliber, black handgun,&uot; Barmer stated. &uot;He demanded the money and got back in the vehicle and took off down Commerce St. toward NC 11.&uot;

A witness reported a license plate number to the authorities, but Barmer said those plates came back not belonging to the vehicle that was described in the incident.

&uot;At this time we are not sure if the plates are stolen or not,&uot; Barmer said. &uot;That is still under investigation.

&uot;We are, however, seeking information about the dark green Explorer seen near the bank around 3 p.m. Monday and or anyone fitting the description of the suspect,&uot; he added.

The suspect is described as being a black male, approximately five foot, six inches tall. He was wearing a black stocking over his face and was wearing blue overalls at the time of the alleged robbery.

&uot;If anyone has information, they should contact the Aulander Police Department at 345-3181 or the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330,&uot; Barmer concluded.
