Eloise Spivey Lilley, a native of Gates County, died August 21, 2008 in her home. She was the widow of Thurman E. Rountree and Lemuel Thomas Lilley Jr.
A funeral was conducted in Gatesville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tracy Clayton and the Rev. Gene Asbill. Burial was in Gatesville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gatesville United Methodist Church, Gatesville, NC 27938. Miller Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Lilley was a graduate of Chowan College. She retired from the US Postal Service as the rural carrier for both the Gatesville and Gates mail routes. A member of Gatesville United Methodist Church, she was active in both the choir and the Women’s Auxiliary Society, a member of the Gatesville Home Demonstration Club, and volunteered with the Gates Emergency Ministries.
Survivors include two daughters, Adair Heyl, Phd. Of Norfolk, VA and Lori Brown Lilley, MD of Raleigh; a son, Paul Thomas Lilley of Gatesville; a sister, Jean S. Spivey of Berryville, VA; a brother, Robert E. “Bobby” Spivey of Sunbury; and five grandchildren.
