Robert Warren Strickland

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Robert Warren Strickland, 56, a native of Norfolk, died August 2, 2008, in Virginia Beach.

Strickland worked for Ford Motor Co. for 24 years.

Survivors include a son, Robert Anthony Strickland of Chesapeake; three sisters, Martha S. Barefoot of Chesapeake, Mary S. Miller of Suffolk and Elaine S. Moore of Davidson; two brothers, Willie W. Strickland Jr. of Gates and James E. Strickland of Loganville, Ga.; three stepchildren; and stepgrandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Thursday in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, by Dr. Kenneth Barnes. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 500 Plume Street East, Suite 110, Norfolk, VA 23510. Fletcher Sessoms

COLERAIN – Fletcher Sessoms, 78, a native of Bertie County, died July 31, 2008

at Brian Center Nursing Home, Windsor.  

Survivors include three sisters, Audrey Holley of Windsor, Rosetta White of Powellsville and Marie Leary of Virginia.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist

Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Thomspon. Burial will be in the Holley family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mary P. McDonald

CENTERVILLE, Va. n Mary P. McDonald, died August 2, 2008 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Lewiston, by the Rev. Johnnie Cofield. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, John O. Taylor of Centerville; and one brother, Charlie Watson of Greensboro.

Wilton Collier

LASKER n Mr. Wilton Collier, age 84, of Lasker, died Monday, August 4, 2008.

Mr. Collier was born April 21, 1924, the son of the late James E. Collier and Olive Rose Draper Collier. He was owner of Parker’s Warehouse in Rich Square for many years and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Deanie Draker Collier. His daughter, Jewel C. Gurkin and her husband Worth of Winterville, NC. His brother, Talmadge Collier of Franklin, Va.. His three granddaughters, Tara Bradley, Stephanie Bradley, and Beth Bradley. One great-grandson, Hayes Chambers.

Graveside services will be held, Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Lasker Cemetery with Rev. Paul Lee officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff of Roanoke-Chowan Hospital for their wonderful care during Mr. Collier’s stay there.
