Clyde Clark

WINDSOR n Clyde Clark, 70, died August 8, 2008 at the Brian Center, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the St. Elmo Baptist Church. Visitation services will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

John Elmo Fisher

EDENTON – John Elmo Fisher, 68, a native of Lynchburg, Va., died August 10, 2008, at Chowan Hospital.

Fisher was a lifetime member of the NRA, the Moose Lodge and a member of the National Guard. He was a retired iron worker with Local 79 in Norfolk.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Pickering of Portsmouth, Jana Pecherek and Megan, both of Suffolk; two sons, Richard Fisher of Edenton and Rory Fisher of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Peggy White of Chuckatuck and Shirley Lee of Wake Forest; one brother, Marvin Fisher of Sunbury; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Tuesday in Evans Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence. Friends may sign the guest register online by visiting evansfuneralsandcremations.com. Evans Funerals and Cremations of was in charge.

Bobby F. Ray

WINDSOR n Bobby Franklin Ray, age 49, of North King Street, died August 10, 2008 as results of an automobile accident.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 15, 2008 in the Chapel of Walker Funeral Home of Windsor, with the Reverend J.N. Baggett officiating.

Mr. Ray was born January 8, 1959 to the late Billy Franklin Ray and Verna Mae Davis. He was a self employed carpenter and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors and cooking.

Survivors include, his wife Christie Perry Ray of the home; daughter, Renata Lynn Ray of Williamston; two sisters, Judy Ray Chesson of Williamston, Joyce Ray Baggett of Cofield; four brothers, Danny Lee Ray, James Robert, Marvin Gene, and Roy Andrew Ray, all of Windsor; step-mother, Sylvia Ray of Windsor; three step-sisters, Lavonne Pierce Leggett of Saraosta, FL, Lori Ann Pierce Butler of Tampa, FL and Karen Barber Faella of Ahoskie; step brothers, Charles Pierce of Wilson, Anthony Barber of Windsor, Dean Barber of Windsor, Scott Barber of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Alecia Lynn Rodgers and Ty Louis Rodgers. Five nephews, eight nieces, one great-niece and one special God daughter, Kayla Lynn Barber of Ahoskie.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home, 406 N. King Street, Windsor. Memorial may be directed to the Windsor Fire Department, 501 S. Carl R. Castello

POWELLSVILLE — Carl Ray Castello, 80, of the 200 block of Bethlehem Church Road, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mr. Castello was born in Bertie County, a son of the late Zeddie and Lessie Casper Castello.

He was a member of Powellsville Baptist Church and the Powellsville Scrub Club.

Carl was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

He was also an antique furniture dealer

and owned and operated Castello’s Antiques in Powellsville for many years.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of over 60 years, Sadie Newbern Castello; his daughters, Cheryl D. Levinson and husband, Stanley of Norfolk, VA, and Julia C. Godwin and husband Wallace of Ahoskie, NC; brothers, Gomer Castello of Texas and Craig Castello of Ahoskie; grandchildren, Tanya Levinson and Samuel Levinson, both of Norfolk, VA, Carla Godwin of Rocky Mount, NC, and Stacey G. Hoggard and husband, Steve of Powellsville; and two great grandsons, Gavin Levinson and Michael Hoggard.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Friday, August 15, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Powellsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith White and Rev. Kevin Copeland officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42, West, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.

Betty S. Knight

AULANDER — Betty Sue Knight, 85, of the 100 block of Dunning Road, died Monday, August 11, 2008, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Miss Knight was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Luther Benjamin and Susie Baugham Knight.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church, a retired farmer and homemaker.

Survivors include her sister, Mable Knight of Aulander.

She was predeceased by a brother, Lacey Knight and a sister, Lethia Knight.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, Ahoskie, with the Rev. J. N. Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Linda Bryant

MURFREESBORO n Linda Bryant, died August 12, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Edna Boone

POTECASI n Edna Boone, died August 8, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Woodland, by Bro. Milton Parker. Burial will be in the Langford Cemetery, Potecasi. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Boone was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Boone of Potecasi; three sons, Quinton Boone of Patterson, NJ, Michael Boone of Potecasi and Eley Boone of Halifax; two daughters, Connie Murphy and Judy Holder, both of Potecasi; one sister, Mary Edwards of Potecasi; seven grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
