Borrowing the thoughts of others

Francois De La Rochefoucauld once said, &uot;It is easier to be wise for others than for ourselves.&uot;

That being said, here are a few &uot;words of wisdom&uot; from my personal collection.

Aside from the very last one, I didn’t come up with these myself.

For that, I credit years of e-mail forwards and, of course, the wonderful world wide web.

Reading a quote, a saying or a proverb and really thinking about it can often help change your thoughts, or aid you in thinking of a situation in another light.

Here goes nothing…

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.

You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.

Great love and great achievements involve great risk.

May the pain you have known and conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism.

When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

There are two types of people – those who come into a room and say, &uot;Well, here I am!&uot; and those who come in and say, &uot;Ah, there you are.&uot;

Always follow the three R’s:

Respect for self, Respect for others and Responsibility for your actions.

Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

Arguing with a fool proves there are two.

Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship.

When you realize you’ve made a mistake, acknowledge it and take steps to correct it.

Spend some time alone every day.

Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.

Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honorable life.

Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.

A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current situation.

Don’t bring up the past.

Share your knowledge.

It’s a way to achieve immortality.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

Judge your success by what you have had to give up in order to get it.

Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

Always forgive your enemies – nothing annoys them so much.

It is impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do.

Don’t take life so seriously; nobody gets out alive anyway.

And finally, when someone asks if you’ve lost your mind, tell them no, but you just don’t know where it is right now.
