Lillian Earl M. Holloman

POWELLSVILLE – Lillian Earl Mizelle Holloman, 90, of the 400 block of Bethlehem Church Road, died peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Monday June 30, 2008.

Mrs. Holloman was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Starkey W. and Lee Price Mizelle.  She was a member of Powellsville Baptist Church and a retired farmer, with tobacco farming being her life’s enjoyment.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Julie Holloman Terry and husband, Garry, and a special family member, Joyce Ann Leary.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Hwy 42 West, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Robert May and Rev. Kevin Copeland officiating.  Burial will follow in Stoney Creek Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the home.  Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Powellsville Baptist Church, P.O. Angella M. Stocks

WINDSOR n Angella “Ann” Mizelle Stocks, 67, a native of Bertie County, died June 28, 2008.

A graveside funeral was conducted Tuesday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Chris Lee. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge. Condolences may be directed to www.walkerfh.net.

Mrs. Stocks was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and delivered newspapers for 33 years. She was also a bookkeeper at Roy’s Service Center.

Survivors include her husband, Roy A. Stocks Jr. of Windsor; daughters, Lucille S. Jernigan of Merry Hill, Beverly S. Bracy and Marlene S. Johnson, both of Windsor; a son, Roy A. “Tom” Stocks III of Windsor; two brothers, Adrian “Pee Wee” Mizelle of Elizabeth City and John F. “Termite” Mizelle of Windsor; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

James M. Benton Sr.

WOODLAND n James McKinley “Peter” Benton Sr., 73, a native of Southampton County, VA, died June 29, 2008 at his residence.

Benton was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, Branchville and retired after three years with Georgia-Pacific in Conway as a boiler room mechanic.

Survivors include his daughters, Christal Giddens of Columbia, SC, Francine Long of

Jackson and Brenda Benton-Murrell of Woodland; sons, Curtis Benton of Murfreesboro and Anthony Benton of Ahoskie; a brother, Wallace Benton of Newsom; sisters, Lucille Moore, Ida Branch and Hattie Jackson, all of Richmond, and Edith Hines of Fayetteville; 19 grandchildren; and 19

great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church by the Rev. John T. Grant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Rich Square, is in charge.

Calvin C. Earley

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Calvin C. Earley, a native of Woodland, died June 2008.

Earley was educated in Northampton County and attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He served as a U.S. Army sergeant and later worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth for 31 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jean S. Earley; daughter, Angela E. Stevenson; siblings, Ellen Langley, Jesse Earley, Elaine Grant, Carolyn Spruill; and two grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in New Bethel Baptist Church, 4212 Greenwood Drive. Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., is in charge.

Dr. Domingo Cabinum

LINCOLNTON n Dr. Domingo Ellescas Cabinum Jr., 73, a native of Cebu City, Philippines, died June 28, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Claude Wilson-Stayton. Burial will be in Dalton Hill Cemetery, Hillsville, Va., on Saturday at 1 p.m. Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dalton Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Michael Dalton, 207 Rotenizer Drive, Austinsville, VA 23412.

Cabinum was an orthopedic surgeon and taught Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris D. Cabinum of the home; two sons, Stephen Mulligan Cabinum of Clover, SC and Matthew Cabinum of the home; two daughters, Dr. Elaine Cabinum-Foeller of Greenville and Deborah Cabinum of Port Charlotte, FL; one brother, Sergio Cabinum of Mentone, CA; one sister, Josephina Pasco of Glendale, CA; and four grandchildren.

Catherine Watson

SEABOARD n Catherine B. Watson, 77, died July 1, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Richard J. Bryant

CONWAY n Richard Joseph Bryant, 87, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

He had been preceded in death by his wife, Margret May Bryant and his parents, Robert H. and Catherine C. Bryant.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, he was, by profession, a Machinist with an aircraft manufacturing plant, who also, farmed and was in insurance sales.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II, proudly, serving in the Philippine Islands and was an overall sports fan who played semiprofessional baseball in Chicago, was a golf player and a wildlife enthusiast.

His survivors include a daughter, Judi C. Gums and her husband, Randy, of Conway; one granddaughter, Trisha C. Schmidt of Conway; one grandson, Paul N. Schmidt of Pine Beach, New Jersey; and six great grandchildren, Erik Callan, Alexis Jennings, Korbin Schmidt, Leah C. Schmidt, Victor Lewis, III, and Evan Schmidt.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 7, 1:00 P.M. at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway with Rev. Willie McLawhorn presiding and the family will be receiving friends at their home in Conway.

Doris M. Ferguson

Murfreesboro n Doris Mewborn Ferguson, 91, died June 30, 2008.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, Ahoskie, is in charge.
