Thelma P. Forehand

COLERAIN n Thelma Eunice Perry Forehand, departed this life to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, 2008, at the age of 99.

 Mrs. Forehand was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late George Preston and Caroline Miller Perry.  She was a member of Colerain Baptist Church, its WMU, and a homemaker.

She is survived by three children, a son, William James Forehand, Jr. and wife, Sue of Wilmington, NC; a daughter, Eunice Forehand Kozak and husband, Melvin J. of Chesapeake, VA; and son, Perry Baker Forehand and wife, Delores of Colerain, NC; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.  Besides her husband, William James Forehand, Sr., Mrs. Forehand was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

A celebration of life service was conducted at Colerain Baptist Church on Monday, June 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Cline and Rev. Don Roberts officiating.  Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery.  The family received friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, and other times at the home, 2916 NC Hwy 45 North, Colerain, NC.  Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the Bereavement Fund of Colerain Baptist Church, 202 N. Main St., Colerain, NC, 27924, or to University Health Systems Hospice Care, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.

Angella M. Stocks

WINDSOR n Angella “Ann” Mizelle Stocks, 67, a native of Bertie County, died June 28, 2008.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Chris Lee. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge. Condolences may be directed to www.walkerfh.net.

Mrs. Stocks was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and delivered newspapers for 33 years. She was also a bookkeeper at Roy’s Service Center.

Survivors include her husband, Roy A. Stocks Jr. of Windsor; daughters, Lucille S. Jernigan, Beverly S. Bracy, and Marlene S. Jernigan, all of Windsor; a son, Roy A. “Tom” Stocks III of Windsor; two brothers, Adrian Mizelle of Elizabeth City and John F. Mizelle of Windsor; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Beulah M. Jacobs

RICH SQUARE n Beulah Mae Jacobs, 72, died June 26, 2008 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, Woodland. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Rich Square. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Brittney M. Bandy

TYNER – Brittney Marie Bandy, 18, a native of Richmond, Va., died June 27, 2008, at her home.

She was a homemaker and was a graduate of Gates County High School.

Survivors include her father, Thurman M. Bandy and his wife Tonya of Chesapeake; her mother, Denise Morgan Davis of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Summer Ward of the home; her maternal grandparents, Jesse and Mary Morgan of Portsmouth; two sisters, Amy and Lea Bandy, both of Virginia Beach; and five brothers, Dallas, Wesley and Logan Bandy, all of Chesapeake, Johnny and Jesse Davis, both of Portsmouth.

A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, by the Rev. Bruce Johnson.

Tony B. Saunders

WOODLAND n Tony B. Saunders, 58, a native of Hertford County, died June 27, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Menola Baptist Church by the Rev. Speller. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his father, Granville J. Saunders of Woodland; a foster son, Dwight Saunders of Green Belt, Md.; and a brother, Charles A. Saunders of Augusta, Ga.

Elizabeth Mabel White Stuber

Elizabeth “Betty” Stuber, 91, died at Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 30, 2008. She was born April 26, 1917 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Robert Peyton White and Teresa Taylor White. As a child she lived in Sunbury, North Carolina and attended the public schools of Gates County, North Carolina.          

During the late 1930’s Betty lived in Portsmouth, briefly attending nursing and business schools followed by employment with Branch Detective Agency. She married E. Robelyn Stuber in Portsmouth on March 15, 1941. They were married for 63years, until Robelyn’s death in 2004

Betty and Robelyn moved to Savannah in 1951 with their two oldest sons when Robelyn began employment with Diamond Manufacturing Co. Their third son was born in Savannah.

In 1952 the Stubers moved to Fairway Oaks subdivision. They left Savannah in the 1960’s, following Robelyn’s career to New Orleans, Philadelphia and New York City, returning after Robelyn’s retirement in 1974 to their Fairway Oaks home, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Betty was active in Parent Teacher Associations at Juliette Low Elementary School, H.V. Jenkins High School, Heard Elementary School, and 37th Street School for about 20 years.

She was a member of the Fairway Oaks Garden Club in the 1950’s and in the Inter-Se Book Club.

She was a current member of the Savannah Yacht Club.

In 1951, the Stubers joined First Presbyterian Church. Since 1974 Betty was active in the Fidelis-Davis Hoyle Sunday School Class.

She was considered a superstar of the Congregational Care Committee, delivering flowers each week to ill and homebound church members. She was a life member of Presbyterian Women, chairing PW Circle 1 for homebound PW members, and was a current member of PW Circle 3.

Betty is survived by: sons Larry M. Stuber, Donald R. Stuber and wife Neel Foster, and Jerry M. Stuber, all of Savannah; brothers Gerald White and wife Sara of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Forrest White and wife Joyce of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Marvin White and wife Martha of  Lake Wales, Florida.

Grandchildren: Brook Stuber, Decatur, Georgia; Brent Stuber, Atlanta, Georgia; Stribling Stuber, Newton, Georgia; Chloe, Tess, Claiborne, Sam, and Elizabeth Stuber, all of Savannah.

Step-grandchildren: Major Robert Haas and wife Lori, Prattville, Alabama; Billy Haas, and Brock Haas and wife Rebecca, all of Savannah. Betty is also survived by step-great grandchildren Gracyn and Robert Haas of Prattville, and many nieces and nephews. Caregivers Angela Bartley, Betty Rouse, and Lucille Washington were very special to Betty over the last several weeks.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Avenue, on Wednesday July 2, 11:00 a.m., officiated by Dr. Stephen Williams, with a reception to follow in the church Social Hall.

Active pallbearers are Sam Stuber, Brent Stuber, Billy Haas, Brock Haas, Major Robert Haas, Jacob Stuber, Jerry Stuber, Donald Stuber, and Larry Stuber. Honorary pallbearers are the Elders of First Presbyterian Church. Remembrances to First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Avenue, Savannah, GA 31405.

Virginia Hardison

WINDSOR n Virginia Williams Hardison, 89, a native of Bertie County, died June 29, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of G.W. Hardison.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cashie Baptist Church by the Rev. Reese Blanchett. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Walker Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to charity of choice. Mrs. Hardison was a member of Cashie Baptist Church and the WUM.

She is survived by

a sister, Vergie L. Leicester of Windsor.

Annie H. Hoggard

POWELLSVILLE n Annie Harrell Hoggard, 81, of the 200 block of Bethlehem Road, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008 after an extended illness. 

Mrs. Hoggard was born on June 29, 1927 in Bertie County, a daughter of the late D. S. and Amanda Mizelle Harrell.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.  She was a lifelong member of Powellsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, C. D. Hoggard; two daughters, Charlotte James and husband, Ken of Rocky Mount, NC, and Jennifer Sehon and husband, Jerry of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Amanda H. Wheless of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Mike James and wife, Nicole of Grifton, NC, Julie Mims and husband, Mike of Rocky Mount, NC, and Laura Jordan of Raleigh, NC; six great grandchildren; a niece, Nanda Irons of Raleigh and two great nieces.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Powellsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Copeland officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at Stoney Creek Cemetery.
