Gary D. Ballard Jr.

NORFOLK, Va. – Gary Dean Ballard Jr., a native of Portsmouth, died June 21, 2008

at Norfolk General Hospital.

Survivors include his mother, Joanne Griffin of Smithfield; his maternal grandmother, Lucille Griffin of Portsmouth; his father, Gary Ballard of Suffolk; and his paternal grandparents, James and Maxine Ballard of Gates.

Arrangements are by Loving Funeral Home Churchland. Condolences may be posted at www.lovingfuneralhome.com. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Soup Kitchen Ministry, Norfolk.

Alice B. Dupree

KILL DEVIL HILLS – Alice B. Dupree, 84, a native of Roxobel, died June 22, 2008. She was the widow of Luther D. Dupree.

Mrs. Dupree was retired from Price’s as a bookkeeper. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a sister, Marie Lytle of Chesapeake.

A graveside service was conducted Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. Fred Braswell. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, was in charge. Viktor J. Sky

EURE – Viktor Jacob Sky, 76, died June 23, 2008.

Private remains were cremated. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, was in charge.

Hugh W. White

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Hugh Willie &uot;Teeny Bud&uot; White, a native of Belvidere, died June 22, 2008, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

White retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter and was a member of Providence United Church of Christ, Chesapeake, where he was a member of the Deacon Board, the Senior Choir and the Nurses Unit.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian S. White; a son, Donald Riddick of New York; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Providence United Church of Christ, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Dr. Issac L. McDonald. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge. The body will be placed in the church Saturday at 10 a.m.

Marshall R. White

Portsmouth, VA — Marshall Ray White, 68, of th100 block of Sampson Place, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Chesapeake General Hospital.

Mr. White was a native of Bertie County, a son of the late Jesse E. and Lizzie White, and a auto mechanic. He was predeceased by his wife Iris Pierce White.

Left t cherish his memory are two sons; Frankie Ray white (Beverly) Chesapeake, VA, Richard E. White (Josy) Portsmouth, VA; one daughter, Victoria (Gino) Connelley, Portsmouth, Va.; three sisters; Ruth Cobb Bertie County, NC, Frances Davis Ahoskie, NC, Joyce Bullock, Martin County, NC; two brothers, Jesse Thomas White Bertie County, NC, William Earl White, Gates County, NC; eight grandchildren, Michael, Ricky Jr., Donnie, Davina, Mickey, David, Nichole, Giovann; two great grandchildren, Landin, Brendan.

A graveside celebration of Mr. White’s Life will be 2:00 PM Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain, NC with Rev. Jimmy Jarrell officiating.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel 205 NC Highway 42 West from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday June 28, 2008, and will assemble at Rachel Mabry’s Residence, 112 Pocahontas Lane, Harrellsville, NC at 1:00 PM Sunday June 29, 2008 prior to service.

Wilson Kell Gay

SEABOARD – W. Kell Gay, 93, a native of Seaboard, died June 25, 2008, in his home. He was the widower of Betty Hannon Gay.

Gay graduated from Wake Forest College in 1938 and went to work for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in Greensboro. He entered the Navy as a meteorologist during World War II and was stationed on the Aleutian Islands. After completing his service, he returned to Seaboard and eventually became sole owner of Gay Implement Company. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Seaboard Fire Department, a loyal and faithful member of the Seaboard Lion’s Club and the Seaboard Masonic Lodge No. 378 for more than 50 years. He was also a member and past deacon of Seaboard Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, W. Kell Gay Jr. of Lynchburg, Va.; his daughter, Ginger G. Morrison of Wake Forest; six grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday in Seaboard Cemetery by Pastor Steve Trussell and Chaplain Bobby Turner. The family will receive friends at the residence following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Seaboard Baptist Church, 310 S. Main St., Seaboard, NC, 27876 and to The Community Healthcare and Hospice, 112 Long Circle, Roanoke Rapids, NC, 27870. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia H. Bush

WOODLAND n Virginia Hill Bush, 92, a native of Hertford County, died June 26, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Bush was a member of Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Aulander, mother of the church, and member of Willing Workers Club of Hertford County. She was also a retired farm worker.

Survivors include her sons, Frank Bush of Washington, DC, Paul Bush and Silas Bush, both of Woodland and James Bush of Hampton; daughters, Ola Bush and Annie Richardson, both of Woodland, Bettie Jean Cane of Suffolk, VA, Effie Edwards of Newport News and Queenie Everette of Hampton; sister, Blannie Majette of Potecasi; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Mill Branch Missionary Baptist

Church by the Rev. Ronald M. Dolberry. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rich Square. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Beulah M. Jacobs

RICH SQUARE – Beulah Mae Jacobs, 72, a native of Northampton County, died June 26, 2008 at her residence.

She was a

member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness Church,

Woodland and last employed at Perdue Inc.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Lee Robinson and Willie Lewis Robinson, both of Rich Square, and William Robinson Jr. of Paterson, NJ; daughters, Dorothy R. James of Rich Square, Lorraine R. Doris Williams

FRANKLIN, Va. n Doris Mae Williams, 77, a native of Southampton, Va., died June 25, 2008 at Sentara Obici Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Bright Lilly Disciples Church of Christ by Elder Mary W. Stephens. Burial will be in Spring Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Franklin. A viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lilly Disciples Church of Christ. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Larry Porter of Miami, FL; daughters, Margarett McIntosh of Capitol Heights, Md., Marie Gary of Kent, WA, Gwendolyn L. Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Monthell “Lynn” Chapman and Doris Nealy, both of Miramar; two brothers, Melvin Williams of Franklin and Herman Williams Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; three sisters, Evelyn C. Mayfield of Franklin, Pearlie L. Bynum of Chesapeake and Angelia V. Cross; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Calvin Everett

AULANDER n Calvin Coolidge Everett, died June 26, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Aulander Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Ronald Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one brother, Doyle Everett of Aulander; and four sisters, Peggy Powell, Rosa Mitchell and Matilda “Kitty” Burns, all of Baltimore, Md. And Evyon Everett of Aulander.

Demetrius Adams

ANNAPOLIS, MD n Demetrius Antonio Adams, 46, a native of Gates County, died June 24, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City. Burial will be in New Middle Swamp Church Cemetery, Corapeake. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Evelyn Beverly

EURE n Evelyn Hope Beverly, 64, died June 24, 2008 at Down East Rehabilitation Center, Gatesville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John Community Christian Church, Roduco, by Bishop Willie M. Jones. Burial will be in H.O.P.E. Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the home of the family. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Thurman Lee Beverly; one daughter, Crystal Sykes of Eure; three sons, Wallace Sykes of Eure, Edwin Brown of Philadelphia, Pa., and Shannon Beverly of Henderson; parents, Charlie Sykes and Inez Sykes Dent;

five sisters, Eva Malone of Philadelphia, Alethia Bryan of Ahoskie, Josephine Sykes, Eugenia Riddick and Mary Ellen Jones, all of Eure; two brothers, Sam Sykes of Philadelphia and Dorsey Sykes of Eure; and eight grandchildren.
