ROANOKE RAPIDS n Margie Lee Kearney Bynum, 67, died June 15, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Twilight Baptist Church, Halifax, by the Rev. Danny B. Jones Sr. and the rev. M. Bryan Pierce. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Marcus J. Boyce

SUNBURY n Marcus J. Boyce, 23, a native of Ahoskie, died June 15, 2008 in Chesapeake, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John AME Zion, Sunbury, by the Rev. Samuel L. Buck Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a wake from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Hertford County Gates Chapel, Sunbury, on Friday.

Survivors include his wife, Felicia Boyce of Sunbury; his parents, Anthony Whitted of St. Paul; his mother, Beverly Whitted of Corapeake; two sons, De’Marcus J. Boyce and Amari J. Boyce; a daughter, Shalmar A. Boyce, all of Sunbury; grandmother, Fannie C. Boyce of Sunbury; grandfather, Lonnie Boyce of Sunbury; two brothers, Joshua Baker and Antoin L. Boyce, both of Corapeake; and one sister, Okesha Whitted of Gates.

Earlene Felton

WINTON n Earlene Felton, 65, a native of Hertford County, died June 17, 2008 at Down East HealthCare LLC.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jordan Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. James Shearn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Felton of Winton; her mother, Odell Lane of Harrellsville; one daughter, Wanda Forbes of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, Jodie Lane and Calvin Lane, both of Newport News and Len Lane of Hampton; one sister, Margaret Charity of Hampton; and two grandchildren.

Richard B. Barrick

PORTSMOUTH, V a. – Richard Berry Barrick, 86, a native of Portsmouth, died June 16, 2008.

Barrick attended Virginia Tech and graduated from MCV College of Dentistry. After teaching at the college, he moved to Portsmouth where he practiced for 45 years. Upon retiring he opened his own company, Barrick Tri City Real Estate. He was a member of the Virginia State Dental Association and past president of the association.

He also served in the U.S. Navy as a first lieutenant during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; his children, Glenn Barrick of Portsmouth, Greg Barrick of Gates, Dickie Barrick of St. Augustine, Fla., Berry Blount of Reddick, Fla., Beth Palette of Portsmouth and Chris Barrick of Houston, Texas; a stepdaughter, Susan Nelson of Bridgewater, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Acres Presbyterian Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice. Condolences may be made at www.lovingfuneralhome.com.

BURLINGTON, N.J. – Dorothy L. Flythe, died June 11, 2008.

Oscar Stevenson III

EASTVILLE, VA n Oscar Milton “Steve” Stevenson III, 67, died June 17, 2008 in a white rafting accident in Colorado.

Survivors include his wife, Jonellen of Eastville; daughter, Meg Larabee of Ahoskie; a son, Lee Stevenson of Chicago and 11 grandchildren.

MURFREESBORO n Rockie L.B. Gatling, died June 18, 2008 in Gaston.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Creeksville, Conway, by the Rev. Luther Morris Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Gatling was a member of Second Baptist Creeksville Church.

Survivors include three sons, Marvin D. Gatling of Mapleton, Lee C. Lassiter and Godwin Lassiter, both of Murfreesboro; three daughters, Emma G. Stephenson of Conway, Dallas G. Burch of Gaston and Cleaster L. Long of Murfreesboro; adopted sister, Mae Ella Grant of Menola; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
