MIDWAY – A tractor-trailer overturned here late Tuesday morning, impeding traffic on US 17 for a few hours before the vehicle could be removed.

Wanda Collins Daniels, 44, of Williamston, was driving the fully loaded vehicle north on NC 45 when she came to a stop at a red light at its intersection with US 17.

When the light turned green, Daniels turned right onto US 17 to travel north toward Edenton, but when she did so, the load apparently shifted inside the trailer and caused the trailer to tip over onto its left side.

According to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, speed also contributed to the accident.

&uot;Speed played a factor and also possibly the load wasn’t properly secured inside the trailer,&uot; stated NCHP Trooper Brian Allen.

As a result of allegedly turning too quickly and thus contributing to the accident, Daniels was charged with exceeding safe speed

She received minor injuries and was transported to Bertie Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The truck, owned by Salem Carriers of Winston-Salem, was transporting paper just picked up from Weyerhaeuser in Plymouth.

Fortunately, there was only one other vehicle in sight at the time the tractor-trailer overturned and it was not close enough to the falling truck to be affected.
