AHOSKIE – A Powellsville man is incarcerated under a $1.5 million cash bond following his arrest for attempted murder and two other felony charges.

Alexander Cherry, 34 of Hexlena Road, was arrested June 16 by the Ahoskie Police Department. Cherry was charged with attempted murder, first degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.

According to Major Jimmy Asbell of the Ahoskie Police Department, the arrest stems from a June 15 incident where Cherry allegedly stabbed an Ahoskie man.

Major Asbell reported that Cherry was sitting on the front porch of the victim’s home in Ahoskie.

“The victim came out onto the porch at which time he asked Mr. Cherry to leave his property,” Asbell said. “Upon the victim turning to re-enter his home, Mr. Cherry forced his way inside the home at which time he assaulted the victim, stabbing him several times.”

Asbell said the victim was hospitalized and is recovering from the stab wounds.

Ahoskie Police Detective Sgt. Stephen White investigated the case.

Cherry is scheduled to be in Hertford County Court on June 27 to answer the charges.
