Filing opens for Bertie School Board

WINDSOR – Three seats are open on the Bertie County Board of Education during November balloting.

Thus far, two current board members have filed to retain their seats.

Emma Johnson, who was appointed to the District Three seat representing Colerain and Mitchell’s, has filed to be elected to the remainder of Michael Bracy’s term. Bracy resigned after just months on the job to accept a position as Assistant Superintendent in Jones County.

No other candidate has filed for the two years remaining on the term.

Filing for reelection to her second term in office was Melinda Eure. The current member of the school board was seated in 2004 and represents the Windsor area. No opposition has filed for the seat.

The third seat available on the board is currently held by two-term incumbent Gloria Lee. The District Five seat represents the Snakebite and Indian Woods areas in Bertie County.

No one has filed for the seat as of 4 p.m. Friday.

Filing will remain open until 12 noon on Monday, July 7.
