EURE – An Ahoskie man was seriously injured near here Tuesday during a two-vehicle accident on US 13.

Agail Roy Williams, 57, was operating a 2006 Infiniti passenger car south on US 13 at approximately 2:54 p.m. when his vehicle reportedly drifted across the center line and sideswiped a tractor trailer.

The accident occurred near Barfield Road (RP 1128), approximately one-half mile south of RP 1201 (Tinkham Road).

The tractor-trailer, an empty gasoline tanker, was driven by Grady Jeffrey Leary of Tarboro. He was not injured.

According to NC Highway Patrol Trooper W.T. Smith, Williams’ vehicle, after going left of the centerline, collided with the front left tire of the truck and then continued to sideswipe the tractor-trailer before coming to rest in a ditch.

Williams, who suffered multiple injuries, was airlifted from the scene and taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Trooper Smith said charges are pending.
