Bobbie Jones Eagles

AHOSKIE -Bobbie Jones Eagles, age 95, of the 100 Block of Oriole Drive in Ahoskie, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at her home. She was born December 7, 1912 in Horry Co., SC to the late Joel Porcher Jones and Velma Smith Jones.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and was a Homemaker.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, James E. Eagles of Colerain, two daughters, Doris E. Hudnall and her husband Charles of Edenton, Sue Darden Williams and her husband Richard of Murfreesboro, two sisters, Portia Bryan and Flora Smith, both of Fairfax, SC; and a brother Joe Jones of Marion, SC.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Marion, SC.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.

Kenneth Brockhum

CONWAY n Kenneth Matthew Brockhum, 16, a native of Ahoskie, died May 19, 2008.

A graveside funeral service was conducted Thursday at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery by the Rev. Doug Spivey. Memorial gifts in Kenneth’s memory may be made to Kenneth Brockhum Memorial Fund, PO Box 456, Windsor, NC 27983.

Kenneth was a 10th grade student at Northampton East High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his father, Kenneth Brockhum of Windsor; his mother, Christine Deloatch of Onteona, NY; stepfather, Joseph Deloatch of Conway; brothers, Daniel Michael Brockhum and Dennis Alan Brockhum; half brother, Kristian Deloatch, all of Onteona; half sister, Jennifer Leavitt of Greenville; maternal grandfather, Everett Harold Leavitt of Conway; and paternal grandmother, Betty Lou Myers of Glovesville, NY.

Mary E. Martin

PENDLETON -Mary E. “Sissy Canada” Martin, 95, a native of Northampton County, died May 22, 2008 at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Va.  

She was a member of Willow Oak AME Church in Rich

Square.

Survivors include eight sons, sons, George Martin of Newport News, Larry, Luther and

William Martin of Hampton, Clyde Martin of Murfreesboro, Robert Martin of Pendleton, NC, Kelly Martin of Conway and Hersey Martin of Baltimore, MD;  six daughters, Mary Everette and Rosa Martin, both of Pendleton, Lessie Thomas of Cleveland, OH, Floreta Edlow of Virginia Beach, Maudie Tyler of Chesapeake, and Courtney Turnage of Pigskill, NY; and

a host of grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Willow Oak AME Church by Rev. James Baker.

Annie M. Bynum

SEVERN n Annie Marie Bynum, 52, died May 23, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Severn, by the Rev. Elisha Barnes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Faison’s Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge.

William C. Bryant

GATESVILLE – William Clyde Bryant, 63, died May 26, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Donald L. Kalapp

SUNBURY – Donald Lee Kalapp, 78, died May 25, 2008.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Allie V. Clark

LEWISTON-WOODVILLE n Allie V. Clark, 93, of the 100 block of Hancock Street, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Clark was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late Cleveland and Sadie Harrell Vaughan, and was the widow of James G. “Jay” Clark. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lewiston and a member of the WMU. Allie worked as a CAN at Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor for 25 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sadie C. Blackmon and husband, Tom of Bonita, CA, and Linda C. Minton and husband, Jim of Ahoskie; a sister, Virgie Joyner of Woodland; grandchildren, Thom Blackmon of California and his children, Zach Ty Penney, Trevor and Kevin Blackmon; Kim M. Kirby of Ahoskie and her children, Patrick and Dustin Kirby; and Jeff Minton of Aulander and his children, Kayley, Abbey, and Jaxson Minton. Mrs. Clark was predeceased by a grandson, Steven Blackmon.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Lewiston with the Rev. Al Hughson officiating. Burial will follow in Hoggard Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, and other times at the home of Linda Minton. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Lewiston Woodville Rescue Squad or to First Baptist Church of Lewiston.

Kenneth Britt

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA n Kenneth Earl Britt, 56, died May 24, 2008 at his home.

Britt was a house painter by profession and was retired from the United States Navy after serving aboard the USS Shenandoah as a Fire Control Technician for four years.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Milwaukee Cemetery by the Rev. Sid Collins. Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, is in charge.

He is survived by a brother, Sedrick Ray Britt of Fayetteville.

Robert Rawls

AULANDER n Robert Rawls, 82, died May 28, 2008 at RCH.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

RACHEL W. HEPNER

HICKORY n Rachel Weisner Hepner, 91, of Hickory died peacefully on May 26, 2008 at Lutheran Home in Hickory.

The Durham County native was a member of The First Baptist Church of Hickory.

She was a daughter of the late Robert and Eliza Watson Weisner.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with burial in Catawba Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Hughson and her husband John of Morgantown, KY; Jean Ueckert of Topanga, CA and Sandra Tucker and her husband Kevin of Virginia Beach, VA; one son, Robert Hepner of Hickory; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two nieces and one nephew.

AHOSKIE- King Solomon Moore, died May 25, 2008 at Three Rivers Health Rehab.

Survivors include his wife Carrie Moore of the home, 3 sons, Robert Moore, of Hampton, Va., James Moore, of Newport News, and Johnny Mack Moore of Brooklyn, NY; one daughter, Thelma Moore of Ahoskie; one step sister, Grace Johnson of Boston, Ma; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Bethany Baptist Church, Harrellsville by the Rev. William Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Margaret G. Martin

LASKER- Margaret Grant Martin,

90, a native of Northampton County, died May 28, 2008 in Charleston, S.C.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan Leon of Charleston, three sons, Tony Martin of Littleton, Dr. Willis Martin of Rocky Mount and Larry Martin of Raleigh, eight children and five great grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Creeksville Baptist Church by Dr. Charles Harris.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Creeksville Baptist Church, Lasker Baptist Church or a charity of one’s choice. Massey Funeral Home is in charge.

Lorena B. Critchfield

COURTLAND, Va. – Lorena Belle Critchfield, 39, died May 25, 2008.

Survivors include her mother, Hazel Grizzard Critchfield of Courtland, and a brother, Dwayne Alan Critchfield of Martinsville, Indiana.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Barnes family cemetery in Seaboard. Massey Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge.

Lucille S. Pugh

WINDSOR- Lucille Smallwood Pugh, age 92, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Brian Center of Windsor.

She was a homemaker and a native of Bertie County.

The viewing will be at 1 p.m. The funeral will be conducted Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Indian Woods Baptist Church in Windsor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
