Dalton W. Holloman

ENFIELD – Dalton Wayne Holloman, 79, a native of Greene County, died, April 23, 2008.

Holloman was a barber.

Survivors include four daughters, Charlotte Riddick of New Bern, Betty Jo Wrenn, Jan Wood, both of Enfield, and Rebecca Long of Seaboard; a son, Kelly Holloman of Smithfield, Va., two sisters, Irene Faircloth of Hookerton, and Martha Hamm of Snow Hill, a brother, Johnnie Holloman of Walstonburg, seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were conducted Friday in the Chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Enfield by Rev. Marc Sanders. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

Henry Rheames

HEMPSTEAD, NY n Henry Rheames, 65, died April 16, 2008 in New York.

A funeral was conducted Friday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Henry Bullock

ROCKY MOUNT n Henry Bullock, 66, died April 20, 2008 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral was conducted Friday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount. Interment was in Gardens of Gethsemane.

Millard Boone

SEABOARD – Millard Boone, died April 20, 2008, at his residence.

Survivors include his daughter, Bessie Marie Neil; one grandson; one brother, Randolph Boone of Seaboard; and two sisters, Louise B. Pair of Washington, D.C., and Alice Daughtry of Virginia Beach, Va.;

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bethlehem Baptist Church. Faison’s Funeral Home, Seaboard, is in charge.

Pencie C. Minter

EDENTON – Pencie Gertrude Copeland Minter, 88, a native of Chowan County, died April 22, 2008, in the Brian Center, Hertford. She was the widow of Joseph Copeland, William Sebastian Perry and Hugh Wightman Minter.

Mrs. Minter was a member of Edenton Baptist Church and Chapter 302 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Richard W. Copeland of Tyner, and Melvin R. Copeland of Edenton; a stepson, Lynn C. Perry of Edenton; sister, Lela C. Twine of Edenton; three brothers, Ervin T. Copeland of Corapeake, Johnny L. Copeland and Lenny R. Copeland, both of Edenton; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreatgrandchildren.

A celebration was held Friday in the chapel of Evans Funerals and Cremations with Rev. David Brooks. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Mary W. Jennings

HAMPTON, Va. n Mary W. Jennings, 94, died April 22, 2008 at Sentara Careplex Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at New Haven Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Lloyd Gatling. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include one daughter, Roberta Fennell of Hampton; one sister, Dorothy Cherry of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Janet M. Boone

DURHAM n Janet Marie Boone, died April 19, 2008 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Second Baptist Creeksville, Murfreesboro, by Pastor Anthony Rawlings Sr. Burial will be in the Gatling family cemetery, Conway. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of God In Christ, Durham.

Survivors include a son, Michael Boone of Durham; her mother, Geneva Boone of Seaboard; and six brothers, Edward Boone of High Park, Mass., Ernest Lee Boone of Murfreesboro, Calvin Boone of Forrestville, Md., Raymond Boone of Raleigh, Ervin Boone of Kansas City, MO and Vernon Boone of Jackson.

Redden E. Bond

WINDSOR n Redden E. “Eloise” Bond, 68, a native of Bertie County, died April 23, 2008 at Vintage Inn Retirement Center, Williamston.

Bond was a member of Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his brother, James W. Bond of Philadelphia, Pa., Joseph Bond of Windsor and Charlie Bond of Kinston; and sisters, Levester Bond Pugh of Windsor, Lucy Lindsey of New Jersey and Laverne Sutton of New York.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church by the Rev. Shelton R. Barnes. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge. 

 

Ulysses Cofield

MERRY HILL n Ulysses Cofield, 77, died April 21, 2008 at Three Rivers Nursing Home, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Peterson Chapel Baptist Church. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Winfred S. Outland, Sr.

CONWAY – Mr. Winfred “Red” Sumner Outland, Sr., age 85 died at the Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids on Thursday, April 24, 2008.

Mr. Outland was a World War 11 Veteran Serving in the United States’ 5th Army, 338th Engineers Division.

He was a member of the Conway United Methodist Church in Conway. He had a great love for his family and friends and never met a stranger.

He enjoyed gardening and traveling.

Following the death of his first wife, Flosie Wheeler Outland in 1989 he was married to Janie Martin Outland in 1999.

Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Elsie White Outland and Russell Outland, his first wife Flosie Wheeler Outland, two sisters, Margaret O. Rafaleowski and Laura O. Baube and his step-son, Simon Askew.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Martin Outland of the home, one son, Winfred “Freddy” Outland, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Woodland, three step-daughters; Peggy Cline and her husband Bill of Charleston, SC, Josephine Ricks and her husband Norman of Conway, and Vivian Perkins and her husband Wayne of Richmond, VA, two sisters; Janie Barnes of Lasker and Gladys Powell of Woodland, two brothers; Roger Outland and Edward Outland both of Lasker.

Also surviving are twelve grandchildren; Vickie O. Soper, Winfred Brad Outland, June Tuten, Jeffery Cline, Joye Hansen, Mark Ricks, Anthony Ricks, Norma Jo Drewette, Chris Perkins, Michele Lifsey, Jeannie Pope and Molly Rhoades, five great grandchildren; Alexis Soper, Ashlyn “Little Red” Soper, Stephanie Pope, Brandon Pope and Randell Rhoades.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 27th at 2 P.M. at the Conway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hill officiating.

The interment will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.

The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Saturday evening from 7:00-8:00 P.M.

Rachel B. Childs

AHOSKIE n Rachel Bazemore Childs, died April 22, 2008 at Britthaven Nursing Home, Edenton.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Survivors include one son, Alex J. Bazemore of Raleigh; one daughter, Tonya Bazemore of Jersey City, NJ; parents, Robert Bazemore of Mapleton; Elizabeth J. Bazemore of Ahoskie; three brothers, Robert Bazemore of New York City, James T. Bazemore of Suffolk, Va., and Rickey Bazemore of Spokane, Washington; and four grandchildren.

Lt. Col. Lonnie Smith (Ret.)

April 10, 1936 ~ April 22, 2008

Lt. Col. Lonnie Sasser Smith (Ret.), 72, formerly of Murfreesboro, NC died Tuesday morning. He was residing in Goldsboro, NC at the time of his death. He is the son of the late Mary Sasser Early and the grandson of the late Rev. & Mrs. Lonnie Sasser of Murfreesboro, NC. Lt. Col. Smith is retired from the US Army having served in Korea and Vietnam, where he received many commendations and medals. He was a graduate of Murfreesboro High School, Wake Forest University, and Old Dominion University with a masters in Math. After retirement, he taught math, coached tennis and cross country at Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, VA.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating.

He is survived by cousins, Ray and Garnell Brogden, Dannie and Kaye Harrell, and Tim Harrell all of Grantham.

In addition to his mother and grandparents he is preceded in death by a special and caring aunt, Addie Sasser Brogden of Grantham.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Chowan University, In Loving Memory of Rev. Lonnie Sasser, c/o Robert Lee, Atty. at Law, 201 E. Main St., Murfreesboro, NC 27855.

Javonne M. Daniels

POWELLSVILLE — Javonne Morris “Qwik” Daniels, 81, a native Bertie County, died April 24, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Daniels was a member of Piney Wood Chapel Baptist Church, Ahoskie.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Mitchell of Colerain; brothers, Joseph Morris of Connecticut, Moses Morris Jr. of Colerain and Alvin Morris of Powellsville; and one sister, Delores Carter of Colerain.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Piney Wood Chapel Baptist Church by Elder Clarence Freeman. Burial will be in the Moses Morris family cemetery, Colerain. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
