TCCS wins TIC golf

JARVISBURG – It was a day of lows last Tuesday, which is a good thing in golf.

Northeast Academy junior Justin Barnes matched his season low, shooting a 74 to be named the Medalist for the Tarheel Independent Conference Golf Tournament held at Kilmarlic.

Terra Ceia Christian School shot their second lowest score of the season, a 338, to win the tournament.

Lawrence Academy also showed improvement as the Warriors claimed second place with their lowest score of the season, 340.

The Warriors were led by All-Conference player Sam Mitchell, who shot a 78, the second lowest individual score.

Also competing for Lawrence were Sheev Patidar (84), Brian McGrady (87), John Summerford (91) and Blake Mizelle (100).

Northeast shot a 343 to finish third.

In addition to Barnes the Eagles were represented by Chris Futrell (87), Will Allen (90), Parker Brown (92), Brodie Harrell (98) and Hall Edwards (102).

According to Northeast Head Coach Scott Emory, Northeast, Terra Ceia and Lawrence all improved their scores from the last time they played at Kilmarlic.

The Knights improved by 32 strokes, Lawrence by 40 and the Eagles by seven.

Ridgecroft’s Virginia Lane shot an 81, the fifth lowest individual score.

Bobby Edwards (109) also represented the Rams.

Northeast was named the regular season champions with Terra Ceia earning runner-up honors.

All Conference honors were awarded to Barnes, Payne Snow of Terra Ceia, Matt Warren from Hobgood, Mitchell and Lane.

Albemarle’s Bo Thompson was named Player of the Year.

Honorable Mention awards went to Brown, Futrell, Allen, Patidar and Wayne Woolard from Terra Ceia.

Northeast and Terra Ceia will represent the TIC at the state tournament at Hyland Hills on May 12 and 13.

In addition to these teams Lane, Patidar, Mitchell, Thompon and Warren received individual bids.
