Ellen D. Cook

NEWSOMS – Ellen Davis Cook, 84, a native of Conway, died April 12, 2008. She was the widow of Robert Bynum Cook.

Mrs. Cook was a retired secretary from Cook and Sons Inc. and a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia C. Newsome and Linda C. Porter; two sons, Curtis B. Cook and Billy R. Cook, all of Newsoms; one sister, Delcy D. Draper of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Carlton Davis of Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Darwin Edwards and the Rev. Kenneth Williams. Interment will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P. O. Box 1224, Franklin, VA 23851.

Henry C. Jones

COLERAIN – Henry Clifton Jones, 85, a native of Hertford County, died April 12, 2008 at Brian Center in Windsor.

Jones, a retired farmer, and a member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Morgan Jones; one daughter, Kay J. Early of Apex, two sons, Roger Jones of Colerain and Edmond, Jones of Mobile, AL; one sister; Nora Newbern of Ahoskie;

nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie with Rev. Billy Presley. Memorial donations may be made to Trap Volunteer Fire Department C/O Herman E. Davidson, Jr. 1401Meadow Road Colerain, NC. 27824. Annie B. Watson

WINDSOR n Annie B. Watson, 73, died April 11, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Church of God of All People, Windsor. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Linwood L. “Larry:” Davis Jr.

HENDERSON n Linwood Lawrence “Larry” Davis, Jr., 77, of Hinesville, Georgia, formerly of Henderson, NC, died Friday, April 11, 2008 in Savannah, Georgia.

Born in Halifax County, NC, he was the son of the late Linwood Lawrence Davis, Sr. and Nita Parks Davis. He was the widower of Jean Taylor Davis and Betty Lou Brown Dollar Davis.

Mr. Davis was a retired Service Manager with Uzzle Cadillac Olds Inc. in Durham, NC. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., at Island Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. J. Marshall Neathery. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Dianna D. Bynum of Walthourville, Ga., Betty Jo Davis of Midlothian, Va., and Jerri Lynn D. Allen of Powhatan, Va.; two stepsons, Kenneth B. Dollar of Santa Monica, Ca., and David R. Dollar of Durham, NC; a sister, Brenda D. Collins of Littleton, NC; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Betty Andrews of Durham, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Spencer Dean Davis.

The family received friends Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home.

The Deacons of Island Creek Baptist Church will serve as active pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church, 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

Ida Allen

AHOSKIE n Mrs. Ida Mae Taylor Allen, 78, was called by the angels to her heavenly home, April 12, 2008.

Mrs. Allen was born in Northampton County, a daughter of the late John Lewis and Gertrude Davis Taylor. She was a former member of Galatia Baptist Church and a member of Earlys Baptist Church in Ahoskie. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Allen was predeceased by her husband, Earl B. Allen, a son, L. Wayne Allen and a brother, Lewis Fleetwood Taylor.

She is survived by two daughters, Chris A. Pearce and husband Tritt of Chesapeake, Va. and Regina A. Morris of Ahoskie; three sons, Curtis E. Allen and wife Brenda of Ahoskie, Dwight Allen and wife Teresa of Ahoskie, and Randy T. Allen and wife Jane of Colerain, NC; five sisters, Ethel Wheeler of Carlton, Va., Martha Griffin of Franklin, Va., Winnie Davis of Lake Gaston, NC, Delores Hoggard of Lewiston, NC, Camilla Cannon of Seaboard, NC; one sister-in-law, Joyce Taylor; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Paul Ange and Rev. Ronald McSwain. Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, April 14, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander.

Steven L. Sessoms Sr.

HAMPTON, Va. n Steven Landis Sessoms Sr., died April 13, 2008 in Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Garysburg, by Rev. Dr. Clifford A. Jones of Charlotte. Burial will be in the Sessoms family cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Steven Landis Sessoms Jr. of Charlotte; his parents, Rev. Robert Earl and Barbara Sessoms of Garysburg; and one sister, Rhonda Spivey of Durham.

LAUREL, MD n Penny Scott Lowe, 82, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died April 10, 2008 at Laurel Regional Hospital.
