ROCKY MOUNT n James Albert Knight, 63, died April 6, 2008 at Nash General Hospital.

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Jerry Wayne Yellorday Jr., 29, died April 3, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A visitation was held Wednesday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home Chapel.

ROCKY MOUNT n Forrest Lee Knight, 65, died April 6, 2008 at his residence in Rocky Mount.

Frances B. Price

MURFREESBORO n Frances Beal Price, age 73, of the 100 block of Underwood Road, passed away quietly Sunday morning at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Frances was born and raised in Huntington, WVA, the daughter of the late Vern and Mary Beal.  She was a graduate of Huntington High School and a homemaker.

Mrs. Price is survived by two daughters, Lynn Marrie Pinkerman of Fort Worth, TX and Loretta Layton of Murfreesboro, NC; three granddaughters, Sayward Malkaylia Layton of Murfreesboro, NC, Ashlee Lynn Pinkerman and Amber Marrie Holt both of Fort Worth, TX; a great granddaughter, Aubree Joleen Upchurch of Fort Worth and a brother, Clyde Beal of Lexington, KY.

Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel is assisting the Price family.

Claristine R. Perry

AHOSKIE – Claristine Raynor Perry, a native of Bertie County, died April 3, 2008 at Guardian Care Nursing Home.

She was a member of Greater Wynn’s Grove Missionary

Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Whitacker of the home; one brother, William Russell Raynor Sr.; and one sister, Gladys Coble.

A funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater Wynn’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church

Joshie Grant

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Joshie Long Grant, 87, a native of Jackson, died April 6, 2008, in her home. She was the widow of John E. Grant.

Mrs. Grant was a member as well as a deaconess of St. Mark UCC of Berkley.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Askew of Chesapeake, Gracie Hill of Norfolk; one sister, Hattie Mason of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mark United Church of Christ, 521 Obendofer Road, Norfolk. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Dessie Jones Rountree

BELVIDERE – Dessie Jones Rountree, 97, a native of Chowan County, died April 8, 2008, in Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hertford. She was the widow of Nurney Lee Rountree.

Mrs. Rountree was a retired dental assistant. She was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lou White of Hobbsville; her sister, Ollie Mann of Elizabeth City; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Burial will be in the Rountree family cemetery. Friends may join the family at the home of Betty Lou White, 146 Gliden Road, Hobbsville. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, is in charge.

Blanch V. Lee

GASTON – Blanch V. Lee, 107, died April 6, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cool spring Baptist Church, Gaston. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cofield Mortuary is in charge.

Martha Lassiter

RICH SQUARE n Martha Powell Lassiter, 91, a native of Northampton County, died April 2, 2008 at Rich Square Health Care Center, Rich Square.

Mrs. Lassiter was a retired custodian from W.S. Creecy School, Rich Square. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Burge of Lanham, MD; sons, Chester Pryor of Maryland and McCoy Parker of Rich Square; a sister, Bessie Shoulars of Rich Square; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Rex Edwards. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rich Square, is in charge.

Florine E. Boone

POTECASI n Florine E. Boone, 57, a native of Hertford County, died April 6, 2008 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Revelle Hill Baptist Church by Minister Shirley Harmon officiating and Rev. Elijah Barnes. Burial will be in the family cemetery, Potecasi. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Grady Boone Jr. of Potecasi; two sons, Gregory P. Boone and Grady L. Boone, both of Bronx, NY; one daughter, Sheri Boone of Bronx; one brother, Lloyd Ridley of Maryland; one sister, Melinda Harris of Bronx; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
