Joseph P. Skinner Sr.

NORFOLK, Va.

– Joseph P. Skinner Sr., a native of Bertie County, died March 22, 2008.

Skinner and was a member of New Mt. Zion Church of God Holiness.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda J. Skinner; four daughters, Torey Holmes, Michelle Christina Skinner, Dionne Anthony and Michelle Renee Skinner; two sons, Joseph P Skinner Jr. and Mitchell Skinner; three sisters, Fannie Brown, Barbara Partee and Ethel Horton; two brothers, John Skinner and William Skinner; and nine grandchildren.

A viewing will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Service. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in New Mt. Zion Church of God Holiness, 1042 Philpotts Road, with Elder James A. Wilson. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Riddick Funeral Home is in charge.

Nettie Eason

BELVIDERE — Nettie Eason, 74, a native of Gates, died March 27, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, by Pastor Jordan. Burial will be in the Kee family cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Kenny Eason of Murfreesboro; and one brother, Lewis Eason of Belvidere.

James A. Harris

LEWISTON n James A. “Jimmy” or Brisco” Harris, 54, died March 25, 2008.

A memorial service will be conducted at Saturday at Washington Street Baptist Church, 218 Washington Street, Bedford, Va. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor.

He is survived by a sister, Anne Peele.

Evelyn G. Adebiyi

COLUMBIA, MD n Evelyn George Adebiyi, died March 22, 2008 at Northwest Randall Town Hospital, Randall Town Md.

A funeral was conducted Thursday at Woodville Plains Baptist Church, Woodville, by Brother Robert Walton. Burial will be in Weeping Mary Cemetery, Lewiston. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.

Survivors include one son, Chadwick Adebiyi of Columbia; and one sister, Christine George of Columbia.

Effie M. Everett

AHOSKIE n Effie Mae Everett, died March 24, 2008 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at New Ahoskie Baptist Church, Ahoskie by Rev. Paul Moore. Burial will be in Mill Neck Church Cemetery, Como. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two sons, James Everett of Lewiston and George G. Everett of Raleigh; one sister, Rosa Lee Myrick of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lue G. Clifton

CRESWELL n Lue Gerry Clifton, a native of Washington County, died March 26, 2008 at his residence.

A memorial service was conducted Friday at the funeral home chapel. Evans Funeral and Cremations of Edenton was in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Lazar Clifton; a daughter, Pamela C. Jones of Edenton; a son, Alan Clifton of Creswell; four sisters, Avril Ambrose of Creswell, Jean Russell of Elizabeth City, Paulette Ambrose and Fran Woodley, all of Creswell; one brother, Reid Clifton of Creswell; and three grandchildren.

Donald Byrd

GREENSBORO n Donald Ray Byrd, 53, a native of Roanoke Rapids, died March 25, 2008.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids. Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Byrd was a meat market manager.

Survivors include his parents, Milton and Louise Byrd of Littleton; two children, Anthony and Jessica Byrd of Roanoke Rapids; a stepdaughter, Amy Hinson of Charlotte; two sisters, Anita Taylor of Apex and Brenda Painter of Belmont; and one granddaughter.

Teresa M. Conrad

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Teresa Moody Conrad, 82, a native of Gaston, died March 27, 2008. She was the widow of Joe Conrad.

Survivors include daughters, Diane Kersten, Barbara Hasty, Carol Gillet, Ann McAllister and Chris Smith; brothers, Elbert Moody and Pete Moody; sisters, Millie Barnes;

grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Barbara W. Jordan

SUFFOLK, Va. – Barbara Byrd Whitehurst Jordan, 75, a native of Nansemond County, died March 27, 2008

in Sentara Heart Hospital March 27, 2008. She was the widow of Melvin E. Whitehurst.

Mrs. Jordan had retired from Union Camp with 30 years of service as senior insurance clerk and was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.

Survivors include three sons, Michael O. Whitehurst of Suffolk, Mitchell J. Whitehurst of Virginia Beach and M. Wayne Whitehurst of Corapeake; one brother, William H. Byrd of Suffolk; a stepson, C.F. Jordan Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Langston of Suffolk; two grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Bethlehem Christian Church by the Revs. Jonathan Palmer and Mark Burns. Entombment will be in the Nansemond Suffolk Mausoleum. Friends may join the family at Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Christian Church, Oakland Christian Church, Lake Prince Woods Benevolent Fund or a charity of your choice.

Willie Lee Baker

CORAPEAKE n Willie Lee Baker, 64, died March 25, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Middle Missionary Baptist Church, Corapeake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stallings Funeral Home is in charge.

Eunice B. Bunch

GATESVILLE n Eunice B. Bunch, 90, died March 27, 2008.

A funeral will be conduced at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Elizabeth R. Muller

GREENTOWN, W.Va. n Elizabeth R. “Becky” Muller, 54, died Tuesday, March 25, 2009, in Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Va. She was the wife of James A. Muller of their home.

Born in Como, NC, she was the daughter of the late Henry D. and Elizabeth Francis, and had resided first in Margarettsville, NC then spent the last 37 years 8 in the Newfoundland area.

Becky had worked at the Comfort Inn, Rte. 101 an 84 for the past 2 years and prior to that as Dining Room Manager and Hostess at the Sterling Inn, South Sterling and was a member of Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, embroidery, baking and canning.

In addition to her husband, Jim, she is survived by a brother, Albert, and his wife, Lila Overby of Oxford, NC, and several aunts and uncles, nephews, and nieces.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 3:00 P.M. at the Overby Farm at Diamond Grove, NC. A visitation will be held at the Piland Family Homeplace at Diamond Grove from 2 to 5 p.m. that day.
