Johnnie Cherry Jr.

AULANDER n Johnnie Albert “John Boy” Cherry Sr., 45, a native of Hertford County, died March 13, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Cherry was a deacon at Miracle Temple Church, past drummer at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1981 graduate of Bertie High School, graduate of Martin Community College with a diploma in electrical installation and

a charter bus driver with various companies

Survivors include his daughter, Brittany Jenkins of Ahoskie; brothers, Billie Cherry of California, William Cherry of Woodland and Wesley Cherry of Windsor; and sisters, Alee Todd of Windsor, Brenda Harris of Creedmoor and Wesley Cherry of Statesville.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Aulander First Baptist Church by Elder George Foreman. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge. 

Marilyn Edmondson

OAK CITY – Marilyn Thomas Edmondson, 74, a native of Fairfax, SC, died March 15, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of R.S. Edmondson Jr.

for over 30 years, she taught in the public schools of Edgecombe and Martin Counties and she taught many young people to play the piano.

An active member of Oak City Baptist Church, her past services include organist, choir member, music director and youth leader.

Survivors include

her daughter, Marilyn Hesser;

her son, Sutton Edmondson, a brother, Dr. Joseph Thomas of Denmark, S.C. and sisters, Anne Neil of Raleigh, and Adrienne Loadholt of Fairfax; and five grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Monday at Oak City Baptist Church by the Rev. Chris Shelton.

The interment followed at Oak City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Oak City Baptist Church, PO Box 39, Oak City, NC 27857. Sykes Funeral Service of Scotland Neck, was in charge.

Virginia E. Eason

WOODLAND – Virginia Mae Earley Eason, a native of Portsmouth, Va., died March 14, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Eason was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Over the Hill Gang.

Survivors include four sons, William Eason of Ahoskie, Donnie Eason of Fresno, Calif., Michael Eason and William Mont, both of Woodland; five daughters, Carol Parker of Chesapeake, Lillie Boone of Leavenworth, KS, Laura Grant of Virginia, Ruby Keene of Woodland and Chevonne Fraiser of Buffalo; four brothers, Linwood Earley of NY, Lloyd Earley of Woodland, James T. Earley of Rich Square and William Earl Earley of Woodland; two sisters, Lillie Mae Earley Perry of Pawling, NY

and Emily Saunders of Poughkeepsie; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jane V. Mann. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Bernice E. Holmes

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Bernice E. Holmes, 62, a native of Hertford County, died March 14, 2008, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

She was the ISS Coordinator for Crestwood Middle School and was a member of First Baptist Church Crestwood where she was in the Women’s Ministry and Voices of Restoration Choir.

Survivors include her husband, Theodore Holmes Jr.; one son, Charles Anthony Holmes of Portsmouth; mother, Elnora Jenkins of Chesapeake; one sister, Sandra Jenkins of Chesapeake; two brothers, Thomas Earl Jenkins of Chesapeake and W. Joseph Jenkins of Charleston, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at First Baptist Church Crestwood by Dr. Anthony B. Rodgers. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Alexander Lassiter

POTECASI n Alexander Lassiter, 92, died March 16, 2008 at Guardian Care in Ahoskie.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Beverly A. Stewart

CORAPEAKE n Beverly An Stewart, 46, a native of Suffolk, Va., died March 8, 2008 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A private service will be held at a later time. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Alan White; a sister, Kathy White of Ahoskie; two brothers, Ronald Stewart of High Point and Robert Stewart of Chesapeake, Va.; and one grandchild.

Brenda Johnson

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Brenda Johnson, 59, died March 15, 2008 at Wake-Med, Raleigh.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Ernest Williams

WELDON n Ernest “Toot” Williams, 77, died March 12, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Baptist Church, Weldon. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church-Hodgestown, Roanoke Rapids,

by the Rev. W.M. Green. Interment wil be in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.

Rosa Lee Doughtie

AHOSKIE n Rosa Lee Doughtie, died March 15, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie. Interment will be in Newsome Grove Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Tom Doughtie Jr. of Ahoskie; and seven grandchildren.

Christine Perry

WINDSOR n Christine Smith Perry, 50, a native of Henderson, died March 16, 2008 at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor.

Survivors include her husband, David Gill Perry of Windsor; two sons, David Jason Perry of Greenville and Christopher Jamison Perry of Plymouth; and her brothers, Danny Smith of Centerville and Eddie Smith of Oxford.
