GREENVILLE – Joseph Michael Mizelle, 21, died March 3, 2008.

Donald Harris

RICH SQUARE n Donald “Buck” Harris, 53, a native of Hertford County, died at Rich Square Medical Center.

Harris was a member of Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander.

 Survivors include his sisters, JoAnn Harris of Virginia Beach, VA, Catherine Johnson of Chesapeake, Ruth Harris of Roxobel and Mary Wilder of Aulander; and his brothers, Jessie “Dick” Harris, Melvin “Bay Bay” Harris, Donnel “Jack” Harris and Bennie Harris, all of Virginia Beach, Wilson Harris of Burgaw, Willie McCoy Harris of Aulander and Alphonso Daniels of Philadelphia, Pa.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rich Square, by the Rev. Wayne I. Welch. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

George W. Cherry

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. n George Winston Cherry, 84, a native of Bertie County, died February 27, 2008 in Capitol Heights.

Cherry was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Windsor. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He was also retired as supervisor of Distribution with the US Postal Service.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Carter Cherry of Capitol Heights; daughters, Jacqueline Cherry of Capitol Heights and Deborah Young of Denton, Md.; brothers, Evander Norvell Cherry and Albert Cherry, both of Windsor; a sister, Aleatha Dudley of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. James Collins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Sylvia F. Worrell

MURFREESBORO n Sylvia Futrell Worrell, 92, a native of Northampton County, formerly of Murfreesboro, and more recently of Houston, Texas, died March 1, 2008. She was the widow of Ray Thomas Worrell.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Murfreesboro Baptist Church by Dr. Lee Canipe and Dr. Hargus Taylor. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7-8 p.m. Friday in Murfreesboro Baptist Church. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is in charge.

Mrs. Worrell was the retired owner and operator of Sylvia’s Beauty Shop, a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church, its W.M.U., and the Murfreesboro Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Bobby R. Worrell of Houston; a sister, Dorothy F. Johnson of Gatesville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Keith N. Jackson

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Keith N. Jackson, 37, died February 28, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday with a visitation from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home by the Rev. Danny B. Jones. Interment will be in Greater Ashley Chapel Church Cemetery in Vaughan. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Lois E. Boone

GATESVILLE – Lois Ellis Boone, 82, a native of Gates County, died March 3, 2008

in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. She was the widower of Roger Holt Boone Sr.

Mrs. Boone served as the Gates County Register of Deeds for eight years and worked in that office for more than 40 years, was a member of Gatesville United Methodist Church and treasurer of its United Methodist Women, a member of the Gates County Historical Society, the North Carolina Register of Deeds Association, and had formerly been a member of the Gatesville Woman’s Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Bess Boone Redmond of Asheville and Nell Boone Evans of Gatesville; a son, R. Holt Boone Jr. of Cary; four sisters, Dorothy Williams of Suffolk, Nell Rose Boone of Red Oak, Mayme Tyler of Columbia, S.C., and Mollie Gray Bass of Nags Head; and six grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Gatesville United Methodist Church by the Revs. Tracy Clayton and Wayne Gardner. Burial will be in the Gatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and all other times at the residence. Johnnie Holloman Jr.

VIRGINIA BEACH – Johnnie B. &uot;J.B.&uot; Holloman Jr., a native of Hertford County, died March 3, 2008 at Virginia Beach Health Care.

Holloman served in the National Guard. Carpentry was his trade.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Holloman; brother, Lewis McCoy Holloman, both of Virginia Beach; four children, Dianne K. Holloman, Johnnie B. Holloman III and Stephen R. Holloman, all of Virginia Beach, and Barbara J. Waterfield of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Williamsburg Memorial Park, 103 King William Drive, Williamsburg. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is in charge.

Edward Timberlake Jr.

WOODLAND – Mr. Edward Lee “Dunnie” Timberlake, Jr., a native of Northampton County, died at the Rich Square Health Care Center March 4, 2008.

Timberlake was a farmer.

He was also co-owner of Woodland Manufacturing and owner of E.L. Timberlake and Sons Peanut Warehouse.

He was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church and the Woodland Men’s Club.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah W. Timberlake of the home, three sons; Edward Lee Timberlake of Concord, Charles B. Timberlake, Sr. of Woodland, and Frank Timberlake, also of Woodland; one sister, Frances D. Jordan of Richmond, VA, ten grandchildren; three stepdaughters; Joella T. Brown of Jackson, Myrtle T. Earley of Garner and Sandra T. Brannen Gary of Cary; one stepson, Sam C. Turner, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; and seven step-grand children.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Baptist Church, Woodland, by the Rev. Lamar Wheeler and Rev. Robert Hill.

Alice Holloman

AHOSKIE – Alice Holloman, a native of Bertie County, died March 2, 2008 at Sentara Bayside Hospital, Virginia Beach,Va.

Mrs. Holloman was a member of Soul Saving Station.

Survivors include her husband, James Holloman of Ahoskie; two sons, Karlius Holloman and Marcus Holloman, both of Ahoskie;  two daughters, Annettte Senpell of Roswell, NM and Kathy Powell of Murfreesboro; three brothers, Eddie Heckstall of Brooklyn, NY, David Watford of Gates and Charlie Ray Watford of Pompano, FL; two sisters,

Mary Wiggins of Murfreesboro and Almarie Edwards of Ahoskie; and 10 grandchildren.

A funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Soul Saving Station.  Burial will be in the Watford family cemetery, Colerain.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio n Georgia Lynch, died February 28,2008 at her residence.

Theodore R. Uphold

NORFOLK n Theodore Ray Uphold, 89, of the 7200 block of Newport Avenue, formerly of Colerain, NC, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at River Pointe Rehabilitation & Health Care, Virginia Beach, VA.

Mr. Uphold was born in Kingwood, West Virginia, a son of the late Charles and Ada Victoria Shrout Uphold and was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Holloman Uphold.  He was a member of Colerain Baptist Church and had retired as a lineman from what is now N.C. Dominion Power after 32 years of service.  Ted was a Navy veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Linda Uphold of Norfolk, VA, and Victoria Hord of Shiloh, NC; a son, Terry Wayne Uphold of Portsmouth, VA; two sisters, Edna Ivan of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Velma Pollman of Marysville, Kansas; grandchildren, Derek Uphold of Chesapeake, VA, and Sara Elizabeth Uphold of Portsmouth, VA; great grandchildren, Tori Uphold of Chesapeake, VA, and Jaelyn Lomax of Portsmouth, VA,; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2008, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain, NC, with Edgar Robinson, Jr., officiating.  The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, NC, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and will assemble at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, prior to services.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Mr. Uphold’s memory to River Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 4142 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach, Va, 23452; or to Alzheimer’s Research, 742 N. WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. n Thomas A. Lassiter, a native of Hertford County, died March 1, 2008.
