Falcons fall

WINDSOR – The Falcons suffered their second hard-luck loss in a row Friday.

Hosting non-conference rival Williamston High School, the Falcons gave up four runs in the top of the seven stanza to suffer a 7-3 loss.

Bertie led early in the contest, scoring two runs in the second and one in the third to stake themselves to an early 3-0 lead.

In the second frame, P.J. Schwab singled and Bo Ledford was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Both advanced on a sacrifice by Charlie Castelloe.

Schwab then scored on a Kyle Hughes sacrifice fly and Ledford on an RBI-single off the bat of Bryce Cullipher, making it 2-0.

The Falcons added another mark in the third inning when Aaron Hoggard had a solo homerun to left field.

Williamston came back to score two in the fourth frame, one in the sixth and the four in the seventh.

Offensively, the Falcons (0-2) were led by Hoggard, who was 2-for-3 during the afternoon. Ledford and Cullipher were each 1-for-2 while Schwab was 1-for-3.

Zeek Williams pitched four innings for Bertie, giving up two runs. Ledford then tossed one and two-thirds giving up no runs. Dakota Young suffered the loss for the Falcons, giving up four hits. Cullipher also saw one inning on the mound.

Bertie will be back in action today (Tuesday) when they travel to Plymouth High School.
