MURFREESBORO – For the second time in less than a week, a motor vehicle accident has ended in death here in the Roanoke-Chowan region.

Calvin Junius Britt, 45, of Murfreesboro, was killed after his vehicle overturned in a one-car accident here Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred on Pinetops Road at 11:15 a.m.

According to Sgt. Tim Krumpler with the North Carolina Highway Patrol (Troop A District II), Britt’s vehicle apparently ran off the road to the right and overturned.

&uot;We don’t know if he tried to overcorrect or just lost control, but it resulted in his vehicle overturning after he ran off the road,&uot; Krumpler told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald.

He continued, &uot;He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, possibly through the sunroof, as it was found near his body.&uot;

Britt, who was immediately pronounced dead upon first responders arriving at the scene, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV when the accident occurred. He was carrying no passengers and no one else was injured in the accident.

His death marks the fifth fatality in the district within the last six days. The first four occurred on US 158 just outside of Winton last Thursday when a log truck and car were involved in a head-on collision that killed four people.

Seven people total have been killed so far this year in the NCHP Troop A District II region (Bertie, Hertford and Gates counties).
