MURFREESBORO – A three alarm blaze has left a barn and carport completely destroyed near here.

According to Murfreesboro Fire Chief Bryant Cooke, the Murfreesboro Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 108 Dickson Road off Pinetops Road near Producer’s Gin around 10:46 a.m. on Sunday.

When Murfreesboro fire personnel arrived they found a barn with an attached carport in the back of the residence engulfed in flames. To make matters worse, the fire had also spread 15-20 yards into a nearby wooded area.

Cooke said a calm wind kept the brush fire from spreading any further and fire crews were able to extinguish that blaze.

Along with help from Conway and Winton Volunteer Fire Departments, crews were able to put out the blaze by 12:41 p.m.

Cooke said a wood heater that was left running inside the barn is suspected as to where the fire originated.

He added the structure was “basically totaled.” No injuries were reported.

Cooke thanked Conway and Winton Volunteer Fire Departments for their help.
