MURFREESBORO – Citizens here may experience a dry faucet in the upcoming weeks.

Beginning Monday, the Murfreesboro Public Works Department will begin replacing fire hydrants around town, causing temporary water cut offs to residences that could last several hours.

Public Works Director Gene Byrd said the department will be replacing older fire hydrants, those with parts that cannot be replaced.

The work will begin on Monday on Commerce Street, though Byrd said a business, Metal Tech, will be the only one affected that day.

Byrd said the project continue a few weeks into March. Customers will be notified one day before the work is done if their home will experience a water cut off. Byrd said the notification will come via a hand delivered letter.

He warned the water cut off to residents could last several hours and the work will be done during the daytime.
