JACKSON – Running through a road block conducted by several law enforcement agencies is probably not the best decision.

That action landed a Como man in the Northampton County Jail and facing several charges to boot.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, Terrance Jerome Blunt, 28 of 107 Arrowhead Circle in Como was taken into custody after he ran a check point and led officers on a brief chase.

On the evening of Feb. 1, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office along with local police departments, Highway Patrol and North Carolina Wildlife conducted a collaborative check point on Highway 305 in the Ramsey Fork area.

Vincent said during that operation, Blunt allegedly proceeded through the check station without stopping and then ran through a stop sign near by.

After a brief chase, Blunt then stopped the vehicle and fled on foot.

Vincent said a K-9 unit from Odom Prison was brought in to assist with the search and Blunt was soon apprehended.

Blunt was charged with several driving violations, including improper passing, failure to stop for blue lights/siren, failure to stop at stop sign, careless and reckless driving, driving left of center and driving with a revoked license.

He was also charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation in Hertford County.

He was taken to the Northampton County Jail and placed on a $20,000 bond.

Another man, Kevin A. Taylor, 37 of 121 Brave Street in Como, was also in the car. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Altogether the collective effort yielded Blunt’s arrest and eight citations, including:

* David Lee Parsley Jr., 27 of NC Highway 158 in Roanoke Rapids, was cited for drug paraphernalia and less than a half of an ounce of marijuana.

* James Ray Peterson of 11 Monroe Street in Roanoke Rapids was cited for open container of alcohol.

Vincent said the law enforcement agencies will continue to work together and he extended his appreciation to those involved.

“I’m just appreciative to the agencies in the joint successful effort,” he said.
