Benjamin Pillmon Jr.

WASHINGTON, DC – Benjamin Pillmon, Jr., 73, a native of Hertford County, died January 11, 2008 at Howard University Hospital, Washington.

Pillmon was a retired mechanic from National Bending Company.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Pillmon of Ahoskie; three sons, Dennis Pillmon of Ahoskie, and Ben Pillmon and Cornell Pillmon, both of Aulander; one daughters, Janice Pillmon-Vaughan of Aulander; three sisters, Helen Greene of Washington, D.C., Cora Askew of Colerain and Mary Pillmon of Ahoskie; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Soul Saving Station Ahoskie, by the Rev. Jarvis Parker.

Burial will be in the Pillmon family cemetery, Colerain. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Walter Jordan

MERRY HILL n Walter Jordan, 60, died January 15, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Baptist Church, Merry Hill. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Jayceon D. Graham

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Master Jayceon De’aundre Graham, died January 12, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service was conducted Friday at Simmons Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Quientrell Burrell. H.D. Pope Funeral Home was in charge.

Howard C. Holland

DURHAM – Howard Causey Holland, 93, a native of Gates County, died January 15, 2008.

Holland taught math and science and served as a principal in the North Carolina school system. He was a World War II veteran, serving his country as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander with combat duty in the Pacific Theatre and in the Bureau of Ships in Washington D.C.

Survivors include his wife, Oma Lee Holland; three children, Alan Holland of Blacksburg, VA, Jim Holland of Chapel Hill and Deborah H. Sweeney of Knoxville, TN; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service will conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Parr Funeral Home, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk VA, by Pastor Ray Warren. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery with military honors. There will be a reception for friends and family following the burial.

Clarence Squire

PLEASANT HILL – Clarence L. Squire, died January 14, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at New Jerusalem Apostolic Church, Garysburg. Burial will be in the Jones-Squire Cemetery, Pleasant Hill. Coefield Mortuary is in charge.

James H. Brown

KELFORD n James Herbert Brown, died January 16, 2008 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Kelford, by the Rev. Keyster Taylor. Burial will be in Walton’s Cemetery, Kelford. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Ada Strickland and Gloria Brown, both of Kelford, Lois Belin of Bronx, NY; two sisters, Selma Parker of Kelford and Thora Stancil of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Doris Langley

LOS ANGELES, Calif. n Doris Teen Langley, 79, died January 15, 2008 in Los Angeles.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Monday at Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor. A visitation will be held one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Survivors include two sisters, Ethel Burden Heckstall and Rosie Lee Smith.

ROCKY MOUNT n Mary Louise Hart Beamon, 64, died January 13, 2008 at Nash General Hospital.

HOBBSVILLE – Emma M. Blount, 83, died January 17, 2008 at Brian Center Nursing Home, Hertford.
