Lady Warriors win consolation

AHOSKIE – Lawrence Academy fell behind early, but shut down Bethel Christian Academy in the second half to take control of the game as the Lady Warriors defeated 49-31.

Senior Kendall Street poured in 33 points, leading Lawrence to a third place finish in the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament, which concluded Friday night.

Bethel took an early lead after baskets by senior Mindy Miller and Megan Simons.

After trading baskets Street sank two foul shots and scored on a putback to tie the score at eight.

Miller hit two buckets to end the quarter with the Lady Eagles holding a 12-8 advantage.

The Lady Warriors scored six straight points, taking a 14-13 lead. Erin Young hit the second of two free throws to keep Bethel within one.

Lawrence scored nine unanswered points, including seven from Street, taking a 23-13 lead at the half.

Miller and Kelli Hoggard scored buckets for Bethel, but were answered by hoops from Street and Kathryn Taylor.

The Lady Warriors scored the next nine points, extending their lead to 19 (36-17).

A deuce from Miller and Charitee Dunlow foul shot pulled Bethel within 16 going into the fourth quarter.

Lawrence led by as many as 22 points, but the Lady Eagles kept fighting.

Bethel cut the lead to 15 after three buckets from the charity stripe and a trey by Jamee Mizelle.

Kendra Spruill scored from beyond the arc at the buzzer as Lawrence took the 49-31 victory.

Miller led the Lady Eagles with 12 points and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Street was also named All-Tournament.
