Operation Care nets arrests

AHOSKIE – The North Carolina Highway Patrol performed its annual Operation Care over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Checkpoints held by NCHP Troop A District II (Bertie, Hertford and Gates counties) netted two arrests and numerous citations.

There were two DWI (Driving While Impaired) arrests and 154 speeding tickets issued, according to First Sergeant K.P. Pitts.

Troopers also gave 16 seat belt tickets and wrote five child restraint violations.

Operation Care was held from Wednesday at midnight until Sunday at midnight.

In addition, Pitts reported there were numerous &uot;animal crashes&uot; over the weekend, mostly involving deer.

There were no fatalities or serious collisions.
