AHOSKIE – Josh Morris scored 21 points, but it wasn’t enough.

Greenfield School easily handled Ridgecroft Tuesday night, despite the senior’s offensive output, rolling to an 80-38 non-conference victory.

The Knights got off to a fast start, scoring 10 of the first 12 points to grab the early lead.

Damont Williams, who was the game’s leading scorer with 24 points, hit a free throw and a hoop to get things going.

James Taylor responded for the Rams with a hoop to trim the deficit to 3-2. From there, Greenfield rolled off the next seven points to take a 10-2 lead.

Taylor scored again and Hanes Joyner buried a triple to get Ridgecroft within 14-7.

Joyner’s score was the final one for Ridgecroft in the first quarter, however, as Greenfield scored the next 14 points and claimed a 28-7 lead.

Brian Richardson led the way with six of those points while Williams, Brian McNair and Paxton Barnes all contributed as well.

Morris finally stopped the spurt with a three-pointer to open the second period, but Richardson responded with back-to-back triples of his own before Williams and Richardson hit consecutive scores to push the Knights’ lead to 38-10.

Morris then had two consecutive scores to trim the deficit to 38-14.

McNair had consecutive hoops before Austin Britton scored for Ridgecroft.

The Rams got within 44-21 thanks to a hoop and a free throw by Morris and a bucket by Joyner, but again Greenfield closed the quarter on a run, this time scoring the final eight to take a 52-21 halftime edge.

Any chances of a Ridgecroft comeback ended quickly in the second half as the Knights opened the period on a 10-0 run to push their advantage to 62-21. They went on to lead 68-26 by the end of the third period.

The Rams (0-1) will be on the road Tuesday when they travel to Southampton Academy.
