Several Roanoke-Chowan area towns have scheduled Veteran’s Day observances.

Ahoskie American Legion Post 102 has planned a Veteran’s Day parade and ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12.

All area veterans are encouraged to participate in both activities. The parade begins at 10 a.m. followed one hour later by the Veteran’s Day tribute at No Man’s Land Park on Main Street.

Parade participants are asked to begin lining-up at 9:30 a.m. at Southern Bank.

There will be drinks and snacks available to all veterans and their families immediately following the ceremony at the Parker Veteran’s Center, located at 116 North McGlohon Street.

In Murfreesboro, a Veteran’s Day ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 10) at the Municipal Building on Broad Street.

The public is invited to attend.

U.S. Navy Captain Evin H. Thompson, Commander for Naval Special Warfare Group Four at the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Va., will serve as the featured speaker.

Captain Thomas graduated from the Naval Academy in 1982 and completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training the following year. For the next 10 years he was attached to SEAL Team Two.

Other program speakers at the Nov. 10 event include Murfreesboro town officials and veterans from the local area. Soloists will sing and play patriotic songs.

The National Ensign, flown over the U.S. Capitol on March 1 of this year and again at Murfreesboro’s Veterans’ Memorial dedication on May 28, will be flown again during this Veterans’ Day ceremony.

A reception will follow the ceremony.

Northampton County residents, as well as any patriotic citizens, are invited to attend a Veteran’s Day celebration at the Courthouse Square in Jackson at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12.

The guest speaker is Chief Warrant Officer III (Retired) Alfonzo Dixon, Senior Army Instructor at Northampton County High School-East.
