As stay-at-home-moms or working moms with young children, we want our days to be filled with joy, love, contentment, and fulfillment.

Over and over others tell us that the years when our children are small go by quickly and that we should be treasuring each day.

However, we may feel that those giving us counsel have long forgotten the fatigue of being up in the night with babies and sick children, the drudgery of mundane household tasks, and the loneliness of rushing around trying to get everything accomplished leaving little or no time for ourselves. So what are we to do?

Let me introduce myself, but before I do that, no, I don’t have the answer on what to do.

My name is Wagner Ward Fields, I am a wife and a mother to two wonderful little boys who I lovingly refer to as being completely full of life, or as some may venture to say, quite energetic!

My husband, Brian, and children, Tanner and Drew, who are five and three, are what make my life complete.

I wake up each morning and thank God that he has given me these beautiful little jewels… then I hear little footsteps running down the hallway and in my next breath I ask God what I am supposed to DO with these beautiful little jewels.

When I was approached and asked to write a column, I thought it would be an opportunity to write from the viewpoint of a typical mom who juggles children, a husband, a job, volunteers, and still tries to have dinner on the table and the kids in bed by eight.

Does it happen? Rarely, but the thought is nice!

I certainly do not have any formal training on the subject, although I am still looking for that miracle manual that walks you through parenthood. Until I find that and can share it with you, I hope that each of you reading this will be able to relate to a mothers desire to have everything work in perfect harmony… and make it look easy. If you don’t have kids, or your kids are grown and you are reading this, I hope you will stop the mother you see standing in line at Wal-Mart and commend her for a job well done.
