MURFREESBORO – Police are on the look out for three suspects involved in a mugging here.

According to Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe, the victim, a young female, was accosted Thursday night when she was walking home from work.

The incident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of High Street and Lakeview Drive.

Rowe said the victim noticed a small black car pass by her several times.

“At one point the vehicle stopped and two black males dressed in all black exited,” he said.

The suspects approached the victim and a handgun was drawn. The victim’s purse was demanded and was taken by the subjects.

Rowe said the men returned to the vehicle, which was driven by an unidentified third person. The vehicle then sped away from the scene.

The victim was unharmed.

While the descriptions of the suspects are vague, Rowe said the small black car used in the mugging made a squeaking noise, perhaps coming from the breaks or engine.

“At this time we’re searching for the suspects and the car,” he said.

Rowe continued it is his and his officers’ opinion based on how the car drove around that the suspects were making sure there were no witnesses in the area.

He also noted that since the suspects were dressed in all black the crime was probably premeditated.

“We have a large amount of people in town that walk for exercise or transportation,” Rowe said. “I want to warn them to be careful.”

He advise those who do walk to do so before dark and to walk in groups.

Rowe asked citizens to be on the look out for the vehicle and if it can be done, safely take down the license plate number.

He also urged those with information about the incident to contact the Murfreesboro Police Department at (252) 398-4151.
