AHOSKIE – The fight against crime is not limited to law enforcement officers.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh is thanking local citizens for their assistance in arresting a suspect on the charge of breaking and entering.

According to Chief Fitzhugh, a call placed to Ahoskie Police Dispatch was received at 8:10 a.m. on Oct. 25. The call regarded a male suspect attempting to enter a residence located in the 800 block of North West Street.

While Ahoskie Police Officer Leon Hall was en route to the residence, another call came into the Police Department to report the direction of travel of the suspect. A description was given of the suspect and that he was traveling on a bicycle.

Officer Hall was able to locate the suspect and, following a short foot chase, the suspect was detained.

The suspect was taken to the location where the incident took place where the witness to the alleged crime positively identified the suspect as the individual attempting to break into the West Street residence.

As a result, Cadarius Lamont Wiggins, 20 of 109 Carson Lane in Ahoskie, was arrested and transported to the Ahoskie Police Department. There, Hertford County Magistrate Linda Futrell issued warrants for breaking and/or entering as well as resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.

The total bond was set at $11,000 secured and Wiggins was transported to the Hertford County Detention Center in Winton.

“I want to thank the citizens for being observant and taking time to help the Ahoskie Police Department to make an arrest in this case,” Chief Fitzhugh said. “I want to thank Officer Leon Hall for his quick response in this case and for apprehending the suspect without further incident.”
