WINDSOR – The Lady Falcons ended another title season last week.

Bertie High School’s tennis team fell to Washington High School 5-1 in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs.

“Despite the final score, we were competitive in just about every match,” Falcon skipper Jackie Copeland said. “Holly Cowand played well as she has all season and was able to come through with a victory.”

Cowand won the number one singles competition by counts of 6-4 and 6-4.

Fellow senior Magan Daniels also had a fine outing, going all the way to a tie-breaker before suffering defeat.

“We had a good season as a team,” Copeland said. “I said all season that I wanted us to grow and improve by working hard and we did that.”

The Lady Falcons, despite losing four starters, defended their Northeastern Coastal Conference 3-A division championship this year by besting both Hertford County and Currituck twice.
