Thomas L. White

WINTON – Thomas Lenward “Buck” White, 75, a native of Hertford County, died September 4, 2007 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

White was a member of New Harrellsville Chapel Baptist Church, honorably discharged from United States Army in 1954, graduate of C.S. Brown High School and retired from EASCO Aluminum Company,

Winton.

Survivors include his wife, Linda White

of Greenville; sons, Tyrone L. White of Fayetteville and Kenneth Lee White of Arizona; daughters, Brenda Boyd of Gastonia and Deanne J. Rivera of Greenville; a brother, Luther White of Harrellsville; sisters, Virginia Mitchell of Long Beach, CA, Elaine White of New York and Jean Weaver of Baltimore, MD; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in New Harrellsville Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth White. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

James D. Womble Sr.

MURFREESBORO —

Mr. James D. Womble, Sr., age 93, died at the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie on Thursday, September 6, 2007.

Mr. Womble grew up and graduated high school in Roanoke Rapids.

He attended UNC in Chapel Hill where he was on both the baseball and football teams.

He was married to the late Louise Brown Womble and to them was born one son.

He was a member of the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church. Mr. Womble is a World War II veteran and served his country through services of the United States Navy.

He toured from 1943 to 1945 as a Navy Seabee in the South Pacific. Also preceding him in death is his mother and father, Blanch Matthews Womble and Joseph Valden Womble and one brother Colon Womble.

Survivors include one son, James &uot;Jim&uot; Womble, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Goldsboro, NC; and two grandchildren, James D. Womble and Stewart M. Womble.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 11 A.M. at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square with the Rev. Arthur Warren officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, 313 W. High Street, Murfreesboro, NC 27855. Arrangements are being handled by Sykes Funeral Service of Rich Square, NC.

Earl Joyner Jr.

SEVERN n Earl Joyner Jr., 62, a native of Northampton, died September 3, 2007 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Sinai Church in Murfreesboro. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Severn by the Rev. Clark. A wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Hertford County Undertakers.

Survivors include his mother, Ethel Joyner of Severn; one son, Gregory Williams of Seaboard; one stepdaughter, Tamsyn Washington of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers, Lawrence Joyner of Mapleton, Stanley Joyner of Emporia and Dewayne Joyner of Severn; nine sisters, Rosa Joyner, Katherine Joyner, Paula Joyner and Joangelia Joyner, all of Severn, Sanira Joyner of Pendleton, Glenace Joyner of Murfreesboro, Loistine Ponton of Margarettsville, Minester Thomas of Milwaukee and Joann Loyd of Irving, Texas; and one grandchild.

Morise Wells

COMO n Morise Willis Wells, 90, a native of Norfolk, Va., died September 4, 2007 at Rich Square Health Care.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mill Neck Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. Melvin Wilson. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mark Hoskie

COMO n Mark Hoskie, 91, a native of Hertford County, died September 4, 2007 at Down East Health and Rehab.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Mill Neck Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. Melvin Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1:30 to 8 p.m. at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Hoskie of Franklin, Va., Timothy Hoskie of Boykins and Mark Twain Hoskie of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Christine Darden of Como, Evelyn Wiggins of Smithfied and Barbara Ann Edwards of Troy; two sisters, Annie Laura Broadnax of Franklin and Patty Ann Lee of Franklin.

Verlina Hedgepeth

ENFIELD n Verlinda Hedgepeth, died September 5, 2007 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Greater Saints Chapel, Enfield, by the Rev. Willie Peterson. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of

H.D. Pope Funeral Home.

Shirley M. White

AHOSKIE n Shirley Mae White, died September 4, 2007 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Piney Wood Chapel, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Dr. Matthew Silver. Burial will be in the White family cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include six sons, William, Francis, Willie and Jeffers White, all of Ahoskie, Jerry White of Patterson, NJ and James White of Powellsville; four daughters, Ella Taylor, Vanessa Liverman and Stephanie White, all of Ahoskie and Betty Evans of Patterson; one sister, Janie Mae Askew of Ahoskie; 31 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Lendberg Eason

WOODLAND n Lendberg Eason, 74, died September 4, 2007 at Guardian Care in Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hood Funeral Home Chapel, Conway, by the Rev. Lebron Britt.

Margaret Brannon

WILMINGTON – Margaret &uot;Pete&uot; Brannon, a native of Windsor, and formerly of Sanford, died August 30, 2007.

She was attended WC (UNC-G) where she earned a degree in education. She taught in the Sanford, Lee Co. school system for 33 years.

Survivors include her sons, Joe P. Brannon of Morganton and Bill Brannon of Hilton Head Island, SC; a daughter, Kay Brannon of Oak Island; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., September 15, 2007 at Shallow Well United Church of Christ, 1220 Broadway Rd. (HWY 42 E), Sanford, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Homes of NC, Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.

Raleigh Perry Sr.

AHOSKIE n Raleigh “Buddy” Perry Sr., died September 5, 2007 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Minister Robert Perry. Burial will be in the Perry family cemetery, Newsome Grove Road, Ahoskie.

Survivors include two sons, Raleigh Roy Perry Jr. of Cofield and David Anthony Perry of Newport News, Va., four daughters, Barbara Perry Scott of Rocky Mount, Cynthia Pierce Brooks of Murfreesboro, Sharon Perry Hurdle and Patricia Wynn, both of Newport News; two brothers, Benjamin and Ernest Perry, both of Newport News; four sisters, Alberta Lassiter, Gracie Speller and Linda Perry, all of Newport News and Mattie Pierce of Rocky Mount; 26 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Angela Soloman

HAMPTON, Va. n Angela Denise “Angie” Soloman, died August 27, 2007 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Hampton.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Euguene Andrew James III of Hampton; parents, James Williams of Philippines and Mary Williams of Portsmouth; one brother, James Williams of Virginia Beach; and two sisters, Tiffany Williams and Teresa Solomon, both of Newport News.

ARLENE M. BROWN

WINTON n Arlene Melton Brown, 81, of the 100 block of Highway 45 South, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Mrs. Brown was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Clinton and Nollie Reid Melton.

She was the first Senior Princess of the Meherrin Indian Tribe after reorganization in 1975.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and the widow of Joseph M. Brown.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patricia Reynolds, Patrina Brown and Sharron Skala, all of Ahoskie, Kitty Woldman of Richmond, VA, Sylvia Caudill of Whitakers, NC, and Denise McAuly of Hope Mills, NC; her sons, Joseph Brown, Donald Brown, and Wayne Brown, all of Winton, Marcus Brown, and Patrick Brown of Richmond, VA, Kelly Brown of Winston Salem, and Arnold Brown of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

She is also survived by three sisters, Mamie Mercado Franklin of Newport News, VA, Yvonne Baker of Hampton, VA and Dorothy Wilson of Norfolk, VA; three brothers, Clinton Melton of Georgia, Wayne Melton, and Eugene Melton both of Ahoskie; 30 grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ken Brown and the Rev. William Reid officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery, Blue Foot Road, Winton.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Wayne Brown, 107 South Main Street, Winton.

Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, is serving the Brown family.
