LASKER – The rain wasn’t the only thing that poured down on Northeast Academy last night as they hosted top ranked Trinity Christian School.

The Crusaders rushed for 617 yards, including a 266 yard effort by junior Leforice Blue as they handed the Eagles a 60-22 loss.

Northeast struggled to hold onto the ball, committing 11 turnovers and losing five.

Nine of those turnovers came in the first half.

Trinity took the opening play 52 yards for the score.

The two-point conversion gave the Crusaders an 8-0 lead.

Northeast marched up the field on their first possession but two recovered fumbles pushed the Eagles to fourth-and-sixteen and they turned the ball over on downs.

Twelve plays later Blue ran seven yards for the score.

The kicker fumbled the snap and the extra point attempt failed.

Northeast’s Hunter Deloatch fumbled the ball on the ensuing kickoff return when he was hit by the Crusader defender.

Trinity recovered the ball and Christopher Grice took it 31 yards on the next play for a 20-0 advantage.

Deloatch returned the next kickoff 26 yards to set the Eagles up on their own 44-yard line.

After a four yard run, Deloatch broke up the middle and carried the ball 45 yards to the seven.

Arch Harrell pushed the ball two yards before senior fullback Brodie Harrell ran untouched into the endzone.

John Pope completed the two-point conversion to guard Jimmy Baker as the Eagles got on the board, trailing 20-8 at the end of the first.

Trinity’s Antonio Pacheco recovered a B. Harrell fumble to start the second quarter and the Crusaders took the ball downfield, ending with a 43-yard scoring run by Kaysan Generette.

After moving to the Trinity 20-yard line the Eagles again fumbled.

Trinity tried to convert the fumble but this time it was the Crusaders who couldn’t hold onto the ball as senior Josh Jenkins recovered the fumble at Northeast’s 39-yard line.

Unfortunately for Northeast their offense didn’t stay on the field long.

Five plays later Trinity recovered another Eagles fumble.

This time the Crusaders scored as Generette walked into the endzone to give the visitors a 32-8 advantage.

With the second quarter winding down and the Eagles driving, Pope connected with B. Harrell for an 11-yard touchdown pass.

A. Harrell carried the ball, and two defenders, into the end zone as the Eagles cut into Trinity’s lead, 32-16.

The Crusaders added one score in the third quarter, a four yard run by Blue.

The conversion run was good as Trinity extended their lead, 40-16.

Northeast had a scoring opportunity when A. Harrell recovered a Trinity fumble on the Crusaders 40-yard line but the Eagles turned the ball over on downs.

Trinity found the end zone two more times but the Eagles didn’t give up.

With just over six minutes left Northeast rushed the ball 47 yards, including a 24 yard gain by Pope, to Trinity’s five-yard line.

Pope carried the ball in for the Eagles final score of the night.

The Crusaders added one more touchdown as they took the victory, 60-22.

Northeast (3-2 overall) will host Halifax Academy next Friday night.
