WINDSOR – One in twenty thousand.

The best of the best.

That’s what the Windsor/Bertie Chamber of Commerce decided Mary Davis is.

Davis was given the Citizen of the Year Award at the Chamber of Commerce banquet here Tuesday night.

She is an employee at Bertie Memorial Hospital (BMH) and has worked there since 1986. She began with the Cashie Medical Center in 1995.

&uot;For all her hard work, dedication and loyalty, she deserves this award more than anyone,&uot; stated Mike Dacuk, Vice-President of BMH.

The featured speaker for the event was Emily Balance – MEd, LPC.

Balance gave a presentation on positive attitude in the workplace, but said that having a positive outlook should apply to everything in life.

&uot;I don’t see any reason to separate the workplace from anywhere else because it all boils down to the same thing,&uot; she said.

Her first suggestion on how people can have a positive outlook was to learn to laugh at themselves.

&uot;If you can laugh at yourself, you can get through anything,&uot; Balance said.

People also need to learn how to reframe difficult situations, take good care of themselves and share their positive attitudes with others, according to Balance.

She regaled the assembled group with tales from her own life and made everyone present laugh at her antics.

The Chamber dinner and the Citizen of the Year Award are annual events held each year to show appreciation to all Chamber members.
