Patience means never giving up on love

I have to say there is something rather humbling about my little brother throwing me out of the room because he wants to IM his friends and I am not cool enough to be there while he is doing so.

Yet, this is the situation I found myself in the other night.

It was about 9 p.m. and I was bored, so I wandered over to the computer room to see what Justin was doing.

Let’s just say that did not make him happy at all.

Apparently, it is impossible for him to chat with friends while his older sister is in the room.

Isn’t it sad when your little brother has a better social life than you do?

While I was having a pity party, I decided to call my friend Krystal who is a year older than I am and is like my big sister.

I knew she could make me feel better.

I called her and she wanted to hear all about my vacation.

I told her about how much fun I had and all of the good stuff I had bought.

Then I wailed into the phone, “Krystal, I am never going to meet a nice guy.

What is wrong with me?”

Like any good friend, she said, “Meagan, nothing is wrong with you and you are going to meet a nice guy.

You just have to be patient.”

When I asked her to help me come up with a topic for my next column, she said, “Well, why don’t you write about relationships and how they never seem to go the way you expect them to?”

We talked for a little bit longer and after we hung up the phone, I kept thinking about this.

The other day my friend Victoria was telling me about a friend from school who recently got engaged.

I am happy for her, don’t get me wrong, but hearing that news was a little depressing.

Victoria has heard my relationship woes and jokingly said to make me feel better, “Those silly people and their relationships.”

We laughed about it, but there seems to be truth in that statement.

After thinking for awhile, I started counting all of the wonderful people I know who haven’t found good relationships yet.

These people are awesome and I can’t understand why finding love seems so hard.

After hearing my oldest cousin David rant about how expensive and how much trouble women are and hearing my cousin Jay lament over relationship troubles, I began to wonder what the problem is.

I mean, how could one emotion, love that is, impact people in so many different ways?

How can it make some people so happy and cheerful but make others terrified, grumpy, skeptical and bitter?

Does love really stink and is there hope?

Should all the single people out there resort to using something like Match.com, even though I personally have sworn up and down that I would never do something that desperate?

I don’t know about the Match.com, but I really don’t want to believe the situation is hopeless.

One day, when I was feeling down about this subject, I opened my Bible and found the love chapter: 1 Corinthians 13.

I wasn’t feeling particularly lovable at this point.

In fact, I was downright grumpy.

But I needed answers and I knew I could find the truth in the Bible.

Verse 7 says love “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things.”

This verse is special because it shows how people should never give up on love because it is that important.

The next verse says, “Love never fails.”

Everything else is shaky and will eventually go away, but not love.

One of the most powerful verses to me is verse 13.

It says, “But now faith, hope, and love remain–these three. The greatest of these is love.”

This verse says it all.

Faith and hope are essential, but the most important thing people can have is love.

Sometimes it is hard to remember why love is so important.

However, whenever I start to feel depressed or hopeless about this subject, I think about my parents who have been married for 23 years and still love each other.

They make me want to believe in love and I can only hope that I have a relationship like theirs one day.

So, please don’t be depressed fellow single people because the situation is not hopeless.

Try not to give up because love will find you one day.

Just remember to be patient.
